    Happy Birthday Milo!

Gee.... I don't know how you guys got Carl out of "big ugly dudes" ;)

    Happy Birthday Milo!

Thanks for the well wishes. BTW... I don't run the board any more. Carl and Ken took over TRF almost a year ago. The server is now in an undisclosed area of the world in a deep underground bunker and is heavily guarded by big ugly dudes with guns. :D And you didn't even notice the...

    Home Cinemas?

Yep... sniff... sniff... all the toys are gone, traded in for a wife and two kids. But I love it... my wife and kids that is. :D I'll have another F-car soon enough. I'm waiting for F355 prices to drop into the lower atmosphere. And I'll never own a minivan. I'd rather have an...

    Home Cinemas?

Phil is correct on most of that. The screen isn't 150" though I wish it were. It's only like 108". :) Some of the equipment is several years old and somewhat in need of an upgrade but it still rocks. Swordfish is awesome.

    March Madness!

Oh it's tough being a Charlotte grad and fan. Once again they have been sent home after one game. And by a dang NC-ACC team... anybody but a NC-ACC team! :kill: me now. Atlantic-10 here we come.

    Way OT: Plumbing Clog

I had already gone into both the shower and tub and pulled out some of the most toxic looking stuff I have ever seen. I then tried the plunger for a while and that caused it to spit out a little more but I still was unable to get it completely free until I tried the foam. I'll keep my eye on...

    Way OT: Plumbing Clog

Just had a serious complete backup clog of the shower and bathtub. My house was built in '94 and this is the first clog I've ever had. Went to the local grocer and bought that Liquid Plumbr Foaming Pipe Snake. Poured it in and in about 3 minutes my drains were draining like new. :D...

    MySQL Databases

MySQL is an open source (as in free) database product in line with Microsoft's SQL Server, Oracle and Sybase. Just about every open source database product can use MySQL as a database. MySQL is probably the most popular open source database with Postgres being a distant second. Just as...

Sounds like a plan... if everything goes right in about 18-24 months if you're a vendor and your program doesn't support the standard you may find your sales going down. :) As a suggestion... ensure you bring namespaces into the mix so people can extend it and not worry about naming...

Yes Word 2003 has XML capability... that was a bad example.

It is hard for me to suggest anything further. I don't use any of the products myself so I don't know where there issues lie or if there is any benefit to standardizing the files. I can picture the softwares in question having different features and as such I may like the way Rsim does one...

Sorry rstaff... a better ADO.NET link here. As for the RFC it was just a suggestion for Jerry to call for one. The vendors could benefit from a standard I believe but it would be up to them to get together and make it happen. I think from a user standpoint that it would be great to be able...

Ok here you go: ADO.NET is part of the .NET Framework. Surely you have heard of the .NET Framework. ;) Learn all you want and more here.

Good point... I didn't use Time because it is a key word in SQL Server. I'll change it to ElapsedTime. I'll add some of this other data and upload another file.

Here is the .NET C# code used to make this file (just the method I wrote... not the entire program):

I gave it a shot... I created two tables in SQL Server and loaded the file you gave me twice to show what multiple engines would look like. I then read this info into an ADO.NET dataset and then wrote the data out to an XML file. The two tables are related by the EngineId. How's this look:

Jerry, Yes true you could make a data layer... but are you going to make this layer available to the public? Say in a .NET or COM component. How about in all the various languages and forms that XML parsers have currently available? Java and .NET for example. If you deliver just an...

The flat file example is a propreitary document that requires a propreitary parser. I'd have to write a parser for each file that exists. With the XML approach I can use any XML parser on the market to parse the file. I can also use many industry standard technologies on the parsed document...

I agree with you here. It will not be much of a standard if nobody uses it. Standards should be made by a consortium of the major players in the industry in question. The standard should form a good base and when accepted vendors can extend it to suit their needs to create value. If they...
