Delay time preference, early or late?

Electronic deployment is the way to go. There are a number of small, inexpensive altimeters for this. If it's an AT reload or DMS, you can "trim" adjust the delay with the delay tool. Either too long or too short could result in a zippered AF. Best to find an appropriate motor for the rocket...

EVENT Indiana Rocketry, Inc. (IRI) ThunderStruck 2024 Regional Rocket Launch 4/12--4/14, 2024

Kudos to Indiana Rocketry for another excellent launch! Big thank you to Justin for all the pictures!

Best electronics package for an MPR

Well, I have one....great flyer. I drilled vent holes in payload section. I just have a nylon corded loop that's attached to my Jolly Logic One altimeter. Then I just use a luggage tag approach to attach the looped altimeter to the nose cone shoulder. I move the JLOne between rockets. One thing...

Total eclipse coming, 8 April 2024!

From the Indianapolis area....we had great weather. We could feel the temp drop and then rebound. Street lights came on. I snapped pictures during the progression using my Seestar telescope with solar filter. Took the filter off during totality.

    Weighing BP and Calibration Saga

Today I decided to prepare some deployment charges for an upcoming launch. While the actual powder load density of BP is about 1gm/cc, I prefer to weigh my deployment charges using a jeweler’s scale vs using volumetric loading. So, today I turned on my scale and tared it. I always run a quick...

Returning to rocketry after 25 years. Central Indiana.

Welcome! There are opportunities to fly with folks here in Central IN! AMOREA (see the FB page) is a low power club that launches monthly at the Ft Ben Lawrence park (56th and Post). We were scheduled to launch today, but scrubbed due to winds. Another area club is ROCI that launches at the...

    EMatch Failure To Ignite

I was one of those people quite a few years ago and yes I had 100% failure rate. MJG did replace them and told me that a vendor had sent them material that was out of spec. Those bad ones would test ok electrically, but just wouldn't fire. Orange ones are not MJGs. Contact the vendor and tell...

    Source for smaller tubular nylon?

Well, I don't know about all their supply. I just use their 5/8" climbing nylon for shock cords. It's worked well for me for up to 4" HP. I did reread the original post and the LOC 3/16 is too weak in my opinion. I had one LOC rocket with that and after a couple of flights it burned thru...

    Source for smaller tubular nylon?

I've gotten lots of tubular nylon at REI. They will cut if to length for you.

    Suggestions for Student Builds

Hi all. I will admit that I haven't spent much time in this section of TRF. I volunteered recently to do a STEM rocketry module for 8-10 year olds. I'm still in planning stages and am going to meet with the program coordinator tomorrow. Anyway, I had built an air rocket launcher that can be...

chute size calculations... am i reading this right?

An after the fact comment....I look at my altimeter's data on descent to see how the chute(s) did. I can see how the drogue did along with the main. Where it landed makes a difference on damage or not. Amazing how they seem to seek hard pavement.

    Hello rocketeers!!!

Welcome! There are several active clubs in OH. A few folks from Western OH come over to our Muncie, IN launches. You're invited too!

    separation charge

I use 2 separate 2 wire leads thru my cardboard tube in the sustainer. Be careful with running through the brass tube so you don't create a short. I use a Proton in the sustainer. One pair is to a channel for the sep charge which I set at 0.6s after burnout. The other pair is connected to...

    separation charge

For my 2 stager, I just pack 4F BP into the red cap that comes with the MJG Firewires and tape it up. I run the wires for that and the ignitor down thru a tube in the sustainer. I Gorilla Tape the ignitor in place and then the loaded red cap (sep charge) just rests on the tape. Has worked great...

    Eggtimer voice module

I, too, have a voice module in one of my LCD units. I've been able to plug it into a couple of club's PA's so that the telemetry data are reported out to the audience. I did first check to ensure that the LCO was able to talk over (interrupt) it in case they needed to. Quite the crowd pleaser.

    Stratologgers Available????

I have several CF's and have had great success with them. Agree with most of the positive statements above. I, too, like the Eggtimer stuff and have built a least one or more of everything he sells. Most of my DD, I fly backup altimeters. So many times, I backup my Egg with a manufacturer's...

Black Powder Source in DFW/North Texas area?

1 lb lasts a long time. I fly mostly DD with redundant charges (4 X 2-3 gms per cannister) and it lasted me several years. Since I don't use motor ejection, I do dump all of the vials of BP from the motor manufacturers into my bottle so that extends the stash. I got my first bottle at Bass Pro...

    Hi Tech / Low Power?

Oh, I went back and looked at my data and saw that the F60-7 was a Road Runner motor. Got those from a couple of vendors at AARG launches years ago. RR had a series of mid power motors that I flew regularly.
