    MercuryRedstone

I've built mine with only one parachute; less likely to lose something. I also added a "Centuri" baffle, and upgraded the shock cord mount to "Quest" style (on the motor mount) with a long Kevlar (R) cord. Works fine, although the tower did partially crack off on the 3rd flight. A little...

    Well hit your michaels stores!

I'm another one whose local Michael's (Paramus, NJ) doesn't carry any rockets. The salelady said that she was told that they were illegal here. They're not. We asked the local county fire captain, who said model (less than G, I suppose) are OK, and even suggested a couple of launch sites...

    So many non-posting members....

I guess I'm one of those "almost lurkers". I'm a "BAR" who got back in, using my kids as an excuse. I look over the fora once a week or so. I'm unqualified to answer most of the questions, and, as for the rest, I find that my knowledge has been already included in the more responsive posters...

Its addictive, but why did you start?

When I was young (you know, in the stone age), I was into building models; cars, ships, aircraft. A relative gave me a rocket model. But not Revell. An Estes Constellation. I had great fun building it. And then noticed that it could _fly_! I got an Estes launch kit, bought some engines...

Well, you could always use one hard-boiled... If the launch is OK, no one will ever know! ;)

    Ejection Baffle Help

I have a Centiri Centurion with a Centuri-style baffle. It's been flying for about 30 years, and still using the original parachute. I've started putting this style baffle in my newer rockets. I'll see in the spring how well the home-made versions work.

    Merc Redstone...

How much extra stability does the rocket have? I would think that the extra MMT & engine weight might require extra nose weight. I'm adding some mods to mine, but nothing that sould change the weight much: : Replacing the shock cord with MMT-attached kevlar : modifying the coupler into a...

    Estes Astron Sprint

I agree about the Sprint! I have an original Sprint (from my earlier years), and I love to fly it. I just had to replace a fin (lost during a flight), but it's ready to go again. I'm not sure why, but it's one of my favorites. Maybe, we appreciate its aerodynamic lines, without really...

    Shelf life of BP motors?

I got a bunch of Centuri B3's that came in an auction that I won. (I was really bidding on the other engines in the lot.) That's when they still used pounds, so they're really B14's. I've used a couple of the B3-0's. The 1st lifted off so fast that it seemed to disappear! The only reason...

    Plastic Model Conversion Q?s...

I once (in the 70's) converted a Phantom jet model to launch on 2 mini-engines. Recovery by parachute, ejecting from the top (NOT front). The model was stable as-built! (No NC weights required!) The problem was that the weight was really too much for the engines; the flight was less than...

    Miniceptor?

That looks great! :) Will you be posting plans, fin patterns, stability info, etc.? I'm always interested in very-low-power (as in low altitude) rocketry, considering the size of my launch site. ("Very-low-power"... New forum? For 1/2A and lower?)

    Cherokee D Reborn

The discussion on 18mm adapters for 24mm mounts is interesting. I thought I'd share my work... The fields that we launch at (me and my kids - I'm a "BAR") are none too large. As a result, I tend to the low power (1/4A - C) motors, selecting the smallest engine possible. I've made 24/18...

    SR71 wing problem...

Didn't see it yet... Did I miss it?

    SR71 wing problem...

Thanks, but I have the instructions. What I need is a template for the balsa sheets.

    SR71 wing problem...

Thanks, but last I checked, it wasn't there. It also wasn't listed in an alternate site that I have found useful: https://plans.rocketshoppe.com/estes.htm or in: https://www.fortunecity.com/marina/tributary/20/MRPlans.html

    SR71 wing problem...

I have an Estes SR71 kit. I sanded and cut out the wing patterns, but I can't get the peices to fit together as per the instructions. Does anyone have a pattern that I can use to re-cut the wings from fresh balsa? Thanks
