    Last Flight of the Outlander

about it's 27th flight or so (over 10 years). This time on a C6-3 but flew best on my stash of C5-3s and 1968 vintage C6-3s The rubber band shock cord lets go and the booster goes splat. The parachute and cone drifted 1/4 mile to the top of a 100 foot tall tree. Last Flight

Semroc Ruskie and Centuri Hornet added to fleet

Two new birds just finished. Both had the balsa sealed with sig nitrate dope and then sig sanding sealer. Primer, color and clear are all Duplicolor lacquer. It's nice to have something new to fly...!

    Cloudhopper keeps flying

My Dad built this cloudhopper for me when I was little, probably around 1974. It has probably had 100+ flights but keeps going! Burned a bunch of A3s and A10s the other evening.

    Completed a SEMROC GeeHod

Had some fun putting this one together, now I need to start work on its fellow Groonies Ruskie and Saki. Finish done with Sig sanding sealer and then Duplicolor primer and color and clear lacquer. As always SEMROC makes for a very easy and enjoyable build. My only squawk is that I want a...

    Estes Teros Clone

I made this Teros clone this past winter from Semroc components. I liked the original when I was a kid and figured why not make a new one. I learned a bit along the way, like checking the scaling factor of the fin template I printed out online(!) Even though the fins were grossly oversize I...

    Estes Cloudhopper Return to Flight

My Dad built this model for me when I was five years old, it was my first model rocket. It flew many times until I got bored with it in the early 80s and it sat around getting hangar rash for the next thirty years. Finally I got around to patching it up, and 30 years after its last flight it...

    Outlander flight report (pics)

Yesterday my son and I got the first flight in on our Outlander. An Estes C5-3 gave it a very nice ride, although it tipped over on landing. Conditions were very light winds so serious weathervaning was not a concern. I will have to think about using a C6 given the reports of the model not...

    Another Outlander

For some reason I started an Outlander a few years ago, thinking (foolishly) that the experience would help in building my Semroc Mars Lander. Since only the landing gear have any commonality, that was a silly reason to make an Outlander, but, at any rate, after a long layoff on construction...

Source to Identify old Estes Motors?

Can somebody help me out with a link to a source or thread for identifying old (mid 1960s) Estes motors? I came across about 30 tubes today of the Estes motors in the round blue tubes that predate the diamond packs. But what is confusing me are a bunch of other motors with designations like...

    Golden Scout #1109 flies today

Close to the cutoff, but I made it! Golden Scout number 1109 flew this morning at 10:50 AM, and was recovered ok. Straightforward build of course, wood was sealed with Sig sanding sealer, then duplicolor primer and gold. Not the best finish, but then again I got the kit just a few days ago...

Dr Zooch Saturn 1B AS-203 completed

This was my first Dr Zooch model, and despite my making a lot of moronic mistakes on it, it looks pretty cool complete. I've built alot of rockets over the years, but this was the first scale I've done since my Estes SS-1C Scud back in 1984 or so. I was pleasantly suprised at how much I...

    Additions to the fleet

I picked up four very nice kits from Semroc a few weeks ago, and have two of them painted and ready to fly. Lil' Ivan and the Vega. These were two of the best kits I have ever had in terms of quality. The laser cutting was perfect, great decals, the nose cones were works of art, and the...

    Flying on Labor Day

My six year old and I went out yesterday afternoon to put up a few flights at Jamestown. We got nine flights in under perfect conditions, and launched our Baby Bertha, Big Bertha, Big Betty, Fat Boy(s) and Corona. There was just enough wind to bring the rockets back to the pad each time. I...
