    Last Flight of the Outlander

about it's 27th flight or so (over 10 years). This time on a C6-3 but flew best on my stash of C5-3s and 1968 vintage C6-3s The rubber band shock cord lets go and the booster goes splat. The parachute and cone drifted 1/4 mile to the top of a 100 foot tall tree. Last Flight

    Thoy Falcon

I had several Falcons and Nighthawks. The Nighthawk would give a nice flight on 3 engine clusters such as 3 G-40s or 80s. My Falcons flew on H-180, J-180s and J-275s I think it will fly on a G-80 if you keep it light. Then you can go get your L1 with it! :)

Semroc Ruskie and Centuri Hornet added to fleet

Two new birds just finished. Both had the balsa sealed with sig nitrate dope and then sig sanding sealer. Primer, color and clear are all Duplicolor lacquer. It's nice to have something new to fly...!

    Cloudhopper keeps flying

My Dad built this cloudhopper for me when I was little, probably around 1974. It has probably had 100+ flights but keeps going! Burned a bunch of A3s and A10s the other evening.

    Old G80's

Thats cool to see a Nighthawk still in service! Mine is in retirement after 7 F50SS toasted the motor mount at Danville many years ago.

Your Prized Motors: A Fun Thread

I don't have pics but I miss the old Propulsion Industries I-285 and H-140 29mm motors. I fired off many an Aerotech H-125 in the black phenolic case back in the day. Fun times.

    New Estes Scale Kit?

I would love to see an updated and enlarged SS-1C Scud B model. That would also be a model that would be hard to screw up from a stability standpoint so *every* customer would get it to fly correctly. Balsa or ply fins gets the builder away from plastic/glue bonding issues. I don't know if...

    Estes - Outlander (#2110) Gallery

Here is mine off on its 18th flight. It has the stock engine mount so it gets a diet of C5-3 or my old (1968) vintage C6-3s that seem to work better than the new C6 motors. If I build the spare I have I will put a 24mm motor mount in it for C11 or D12 power. I bet a C11 will give it a perfect...

    Semroc - Vega (KB-5) Gallery

Here is my Vega being launched by my son and trusty launch assistant. We pretty much wore this one out, but I have another new in bag when I get around to building it.

    Semroc Saturn 1B Abbreviated Build

I would be curious to know how much the 3d resin part weighs... Even if it is heavy, it would be a great addition to the person building one for display. I am working on a Semroc 1b right now. I am being a non-purist and used the balsa fins and will use the Apogee capsule. Since I bought...

Mars Lander / Outlander - Rubber Band alternatives / fixes...

I concur on replacing the tubing with real silicone tubing. I used Prather pink fuel tubing and BBs instead of the misshapen plastic balls. My outlander has had about a dozen great flights and good landings on the stock chute.

    LOC IV Questions

To me that simulation seems a bit optimistic. I have flown a THOY Falcon, Tomahawk, and Loc Ultimate on the Aerotech H-180W, which is almost identical total impulse and those are similar size rockets. Mine were a bit heavier than a Loc IV, but in the ballpark and they were nowhere near 2000+...

    Titebond Glue

I have started using epoxy for stuff like motor mount installations, especially with Semroc tubes that seem to coke bottle more than Estes tubes.

I might have to paint my spare Outlander that way, that looks great!

    Outlander flight report (pics)

I replaced the hinge material on mine with model airplane silicone fuel tubing. Much more durable than the kit supplied stuff. I could replace the elastic for the gear springs but I'm too lazy to try threading it through the "nozzle" boat tail section. Sometimes a landing bashes one of the...

    Outlander flight report (pics)

By way of update, that Outlander has about a dozen more flights on it now. Four were with C5-3s and the rest with C6-3s. The darn thing just keeps working perfectly. It weathervanes, yes, but very predictably and shows no inclination to tip and do a power prang. My old 1970 vintage C6-3s...

Aerotech's bringing the I65 back as a DMS motor!

Those were the days! I remember the early 90s Danville launches were you could wander from motel room to room and buy tons of cool stuff. Ron and Deb and the Loc crew, Rocket Research out of Richmond, Propulsion Industries and the great 29mm H-140 and I-285 motors, Rocketflites big BP motors...

    engine question

I just flew some 1969 vintage Estes motors yesterday. No problems of any kind.
