    CTI Discussion Thread

If it helps any, the assembly of the motor felt the same as all the other 38mm CTI reloads I've successfully flown. Slid into the case with a firm push. Threads grabbed fine. I specifically noted screwing the aft closure in felt good. I checked the forward end to make sure it was all the way up...

    CTI Discussion Thread

I've flown tons of 38mm CTI motors with no issues. Finally yesterday I had a 38mm J520 6xl skidmark fail. It made it a little over 1200 feet before it failed. The aft closure let go, sending the case up through a fiberglass Madcow Reaper. It took a chuck out of the 6xl case and blew a hole...

    RIP Gloria

I typically don't say much about people who have passed because I have a hard time finding the right words. I'll make an exception for Gloria. It was always a pleasure dealing with Gloria (and Robert too). She had a fun energy that was delivered in a thick Boston accent. Always positive...

60,000 lbs of Ammonium Nitrate disappears

Well that's no fun. What about hitting it with a hammer?

When they say seal they mean a tag security seal like this. https://www.uline.com/Grp_47/Truck-Seals-and-Security-Seals?pricode=WD386&AdKeyword=cargo%20seals&AdMatchtype=p&gclid=CjwKCAjw67ajBhAVEiwA2g_jELF6Szocly7WtCuRQZWrK6jnBeIWN4jjF0rVT_skf2xO7G2q21yDzhoCUPYQAvD_BwE

    Does Composite Warehouse Still Exist?

I've noticed there's a solid "that may happen to everyone else but it won't happen to ME" attitude among rocketeers.

    Holtville report

Those kids certifying yesterday were members of the SDSU rocket team, I believe. It's possible the new L1 certs are kids more capable than L3s. (Their rocket has a liquid fuel motor and their goal is the Karman line) Also (and I love this) the kids down at the MPR range to the right of the...

Lost Your Blast Plate? Put A Lid On It...

Nah, we were having a good time. Anyone who's launched for 60 years is smart enough to figure out how clips might touch a blast plate. Titan has a great sense of humor.

Lost Your Blast Plate? Put A Lid On It...

Blast plate goes under the rocket. Also under the rocket: ignitor. Attached to the ignitor under the rocket: clips. We use ceramic tiles with holes center-drilled. Flower pots also work and are conveniently pre-holed. This is for LPR.

Metallic blast plates short out clips.

    If you moved, and wanted...

The town of Ocotillio, CA ticks several of your boxes. Just east of the mountains inland of San Diego in Imperial County. You can get a house and a couple acres for around $300K. It's desert land, though so plan on not much growing but scrub. About an hour and a half from LPR/MPR Fiesta Island...

Do you have Carber motors? Post some pics. I want to see how the HEI is set up.

    Hello from California!

I also don't live in the armpit part. Our local LPR launch is in a very non-armpit part. But to launch HPR I gotta leave the nice part, drive through a sweaty hairy knee pit, up a well-toned thigh, through the sweaty crack to the other side of the bunghole to Tripoli San Diego. Each place...

    Portable solar power stations

I admire people like you that have the time, patience and knowhow to make their own. I don't. So I'm looking for a neat little package I can buy.

    Portable solar power stations

Good points. Here's the way I'm looking at it: If the power gets knocked out with an earthquake, I'd like to have something that can get us through about a week. The items I want to run (fridge, AC) drink a lot of power. As power station size increases, the cost increases pretty quick. If I...

    Portable solar power stations

I have a small gas generator (Home Depot special Homelite 2250 watt). Since I live in an earthquake area, in the event of a blackout I wanted something the could run the fridge, furnace and a window AC (basically keep us warm/cool and keep food from spoiling). Gas maintenance is a small chore...
