    Wildman Mach 3

Do you trim the carbon before it’s fully cured? Do you find there’s a gap on the edges (where the carbon from each side meets) that needs to be filled or do they touch? Hope that makes sense.

Keep It Simple,Stupid. My Level 3 build

Why are you using peel ply under the Mylar? I would have thought laying the carbon fibre directly into the Mylar would give a better finish?

Awesome thanks. I’ll try that. Thanks for all the replies.

Optimal Weight / Length for Altitude

I have Open Rocket - I don't see an option for calculating optimum mass for maximum altitude. Bear in mind - my question is not how much stability I need (I will ensure I have at least 2 calibers) but rather will I get maximum altitude from a shorter, heavier rocket (as a result of requiring...

Optimal Weight / Length for Altitude

I don’t know the thrust curve of my motor but I estimate 200kg thrust for 2sec. Rocket is about 5kg (motor incl).

Optimal Weight / Length for Altitude

I can get it to 2 with more nose weight. But regardless if I shorten it more nose weight is required. Do I go with more nose weight or a longer rocket and less nose weight?

Optimal Weight / Length for Altitude

I have a rocket with an 80mm diameter that is about 60" long. I am considering shortening it but it will reduce the current stability of 1.2 calibers to less than 1 calibre which will require noseweight to correct it. Considering my goal of maximum altitude which is a better option - a shorter...

    +50.000ft Sugar Boosted-Dart Project

Very, very cool. Its a huge pity the EX section is restricted. There is a lot to be learned about sugar based and RNX type propellants amongst others.

I'm enjoying the scenery nearly as much as the rockets. Here's mine Johannesburg, South Africa. EX K.

Once the pack is opened do the motors need to be stored in an airtight container? Do they have a shelf life?

    Fin design help

The basic design is : 3" diameter Von Karmen nose cone (18" long) total length 95" Using EX motor (mid 'L') My current fin (three fins) design has a span of 3", root chord of 12.5" with the tip angle at 90degrees. OR puts the CP 66" back. I've made the fins 3" in from the aft end. Sound OK ?

    Fin design help

Is there an ideal aspect ratio for a triangular shaped fin ? This will be for a 3" rocket. Swept forward trailing edge. My understanding is that span should be more or less equal to the rockets diameter. How long should the root chord be ?

How tall should my launch tower be ?

    About 20lbs with an 'M'

How tall should my launch tower be ?

I launch mainly 3" rockets upto about an 'M' but want to build an adjustable launch tower to take bigger and smaller diameter rockets. Is there a formula to calculate the minimum height ?
