    Fliskits Night Whisper Build

Alright, this is my first fliskits model. I have to say these things are far better quality than what I am used to. Since this model will not be launched and used as a display piece only, I opted to replace the basswood antennas with hatpins and sewing needles. (I nicknamed this one...

    Estes Ventris Build Thread

Alright, here is where I am at so far. I have decided on a zipperless design, and used the body tubes from an Astron Ecliptic to make an ejection baffle out of the coupler. (4 tubes, similar to a car muffler) The interiors of nosecone and transition are used to supplement payload space...

Question, Regarding Estes Ventris Payload Section

Alright, Everyone knows the payload section is a little small. Can anyone here give me a good reason to NOT cut away the forward bulkhead of the transition and rear end of the nosecone, and use the interior of each for additional payload space?

Next Project (First Mid-Power Rocket ever for me)

I found this on the clearance rack at Hobby Lobby for 33$ around last October. Its sat in my build pile since then =( Gonna do some research first and see what the common problems are with this kit, and attempt to mitigate any flaws in its design.

For whatever reason I really really like this one =D

Estes QCC Explorer vs Estes Vagabond

Almost the same rocket, just different fin arrangements (Hard to tell in the pic due to the perspective, but the measurements are the same) No complaints. I like how the arrangement looks. and i want to make this my default platform for many other fin arrangements. I have another QCC...

Fin re-enforcement on an Estes Vagabond

Alright, having some trouble on this one... Tired of shredded balsa fins, so I have taken to paper laminating the surfaces of them. This is a fairly big low power rocket, capable of engines in the E-range, and I want to say surface mount balsa fins are a bad idea. (I'm no expert, this is...

    Finished QCC Explorer

Alright, only took me a month to build. (Now watch me crash it on its maiden voyage, knowing my luck...)

Alright, what is the proper term for a rocket with a curved fuselage?

Looking for a general term accepted by the majority of the rocket community The type of rocket like the mascot here, shaped as such: (Parabolic rocket? Football-Rocket? Cigar rocket? FAT Rocket? Retro-Futuristic rocket?) (Entertaining ideas of making one shaped as such)

    Ducted Internal Finned Experiment/ MADROC

Alright. I have been entertaining ideas like this for a while, time to just jump in and see what happens. The challenge is to make a stable design where the fins do not extend past the OD of the body tubes. Internal fins, air-ducts, and a ring fin will be used. I'd like to avoid a...

    Astron Elliptic II Build

Making an attempt to put a dent in my build wall/pile This is the closest design I could find that compares to my old Sprint That I had from the 80's. (The nosecone is a little longer, it appears thinner, and it has a second stage, but hey, 3FNC is close enough) I'm not going to mess...

Chalk up my area as a "No Fly Zone"

Specifically, I'm in Lufkin Texas, Angelina County. I just found out that model rockets are not allowed to be launched on city property. Its part of an ordinance that was passed in 1971.:facepalm::mad::facepalm::mad::facepalm: Is there a complied list of such places here that I...

    Finless Vent-channel Design?

Has anyone tried this? Its an idea that I have for a finless rocket, where there are intake vents under the nosecone which lead to channels through the body tube, allowing the air to exit around the motor housing?

What were your "Firsts" in terms of rocketry?

(I am sure there is another post like this hidden in this area, and I looked and looked for it so I could resurrect it. I'll just start a new one.) Specifically 3 things: 1: What was your first exposure to the hobby? 2: What was your first rocket that you built/owned/launched? 3: What was...

    Estes Crossfire Build

I didn't care for the way the strakes looked on this model so I lost them Otherwise an enjoyable little warm-up build to get back in the game

So what exactly is a "Ventris"

Yes, I understand its a mid-power rocket kit manufactured by Estes. To be more specific, I want to know what Estes named this rocket after. I have done some research, and found that there is a crater on the moon called Ventris, as well as an English Architect named Michael Ventris...

Baffle system for a Ventris, question about what to coat it with

Alright, I'm doing a bunch of research before build my first MPR, and from the looks of things a half moon baffle system in place of wadding/dog-barf looks to be a favored approach. I saw the following threads and learned quite a bit, but I still have a few questions about what to coat it...

    Dog Barf...

I didnt know what the stuff was till I came here. I'm sorry, I can't say this without myself and the GF laughing... My first exposure to the term was when Fred Garvin made a reply to my question about the Ventris rocket: I though he was joking, and laughed out loud. My brain is...

Question regarding a new Estes Ventris

(Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but this thing is considered a mid-power rocket so I thought I would start here) The local hobby store has a new one on clearance for US 35$. Other prices I have seen range from 40ish to 70ish. I have read many things regarding this...
