The explosion was a bomb which was detonated on the military range where the flight took place, and was actually filmed the day before the launch took place. As George points out, there's a fairly obvious cut to the explosion footage just as the shuttle hits the ground. As for the separation...

It looks like the new attachment uploader will let you select multiple files at once to upload, so now it should be even easier to upload multiple pictures than it was before. Cheers, Phil

It might be a while before I'm able to do anything about this, but I'll have a look and see if we can get that changed - it would make that a lot more usable. For now, you can also mark a forum as read from the main page by double-clicking on the forum icon (the speech-bubble ones). Cheers, Phil

If you head to the "advanced" reply editor page thingy, you can choose a different icon and add a title to your post which appears in the space next to it, so it's not entirely wasted space. It's just not very apparent that you can fiddle about with it from the quick-reply editor at the bottom...
