At what point does model rocketry have to morph into HPR?

Probably because f=ma is no more relevant to this question than e=mc^2. Neither is the correct equation. F=ma tells you how fast your rocket will accelerate with given net force, it doesn't tell you how hard it will hit you on the head on the way down.

QCRS Hosting Mini Midwest Power May 26 and May 27

A few photos from Saturday, including a series on one of the strangest CATOs i've ever seen. https://www.flickr.com/photos/nerull/albums/72157669479170218

    Will epoxy hold silicone?

RTV Silicone maybe, but very few things will stick to silicone.

Anyone Have A Model Of This Rocket?

Don't knock em too much. They pulled it off while ours were still blowing up on the pad. The R7 didn't use V2 engines, though. They used two types of multichamber LOX/Kerosene engines which really don't resemble them at all. 1 RD-107 engine in each booster plus a single RD-108 engine in the...

Bad day for Mike at Bay Area Rocketry....

As a sailor who makes regular use of clock directions and spends a lot of time on lessons with beginners - in the time it takes the average layman to figure out what the direction yelled over the PA means it will be too late.

Bad day for Mike at Bay Area Rocketry....

It's better to make sure no one ever has to put their hopes on that slim chance. That includes *gasp* not launching if the wind is going to make a rocket arc into the spectator area. But that's crazy talk.

Pressure relief holes in the airframe in the area of the motor tube?

If you do the math you are potentially looking at quite a lot of force. A well sealed 4 inch rocket launched to one mile will experience 32 pounds pushing it apart. That's quite a bit more than it takes to separate most rockets. At 2 miles it goes to 60 pounds.

    Antimatter

If they've figured out a portable, compact containment method for antimatter we should give them a nobel prize. It would probably work for high energy plasma too! Current antimatter storage relies on a very large magnetic storage ring (similar to a particle accelerator, but it simply keeps...

    Are you comfortable with Radioactive?

Ionization smoke alarms are starting to be phased out in favor of photoelectric smoke alarms, which can detect a smoldering fire faster and have fewer false alarms, so radioactive smoke alarms will slowly start going away. But in any case, the type and level of radiation present in these...

Why do we continue to pay the Postal Workers of America??????????

Would this be a bad time to point out that the USPS doesn't get tax money, and hasn't since the 80s? You don't pay squat. Their services are not quite as nice as UPS/Fedex, but given the difference in prices and the fact that congress has spent the last 30 years trying to strangle the USPS...

    1st MPR Launch = Disaster

I've had LOCs tiny little nylon rope burn through before. It doesn't take much.

    MS Security Essentials

I've seen some do quite convincing impersonations of MSSE as well, and it's almost standard for a virus to attack and disable any AV programs it encounters. New malware pops up faster than AV companies can respond, so good security habits are essential - having a running AV is not always enough...

China has a manned space program and advanced manufacturing infrastructure. I assure you they aren't asking questions on TRF.

CJ's "HOW TO BUILD A DARKSTAR 3 OR ANY GLASS KIT BUILD" STARTS

Double bowline might be more ideal. If you use a standard bowline, always check it before flight - like you would a quicklink. A stopper knot would also be a good idea. One of my other hobbies is sailing, which means I use bowlines all the time. They're very strong, very secure knots, but they...

    An EX 98mm KABLOOEY!!

The most afraid I've ever been at a launch was multiple simultaneous M/N powered Gizmo XLs core sampling around the spectator area from above the cloud deck, with no warning but a terrifying wail until just before impact. One of the most glaring examples of "go fever" I've ever witnessed...

BANG! BANG! Freedom lovers ONLY need view

Fortunately for everyone, free speech includes no requirement to be nice. The scary thing is the people who think they have a right not to be offended are often the same people who fantasize about shooting people.

Why is newsbot allowed to spam the forum?

Er, Newsbot is a built in part of vBulletin. It posts items from RSS feeds the admins have configured in the control panel. If it only posts space.com, that's because they haven't added any other RSS feeds. Neither space.com, or anyone else, is spamming the forum.

Thick White Smoke? What motor has the thickest whitest smoke?

No, it isn't, and I've no idea whos it is. I just searched google for a good photo a WL K-motor.

I'm normally a CTI user, but White Lightning is really in a class of it's own if you want thick white smoke. K550:

    Freon Powered...Really?

Chlorine released at lower levels in the atmosphere does not effect the ozone layer. It's too reactive and is neutralized before it ever gets there. The danger of CFCs is that they are stable until they reach the UV-rich upper atmosphere. They release chlorine right where it does the most...
