    Cast resin Nike Fins?

+3 for the built-up method. I wanted toughness so I went with 1/64" plywood for the skins. These are 1/8 scale.

Is there a way to find the CP without doing the cardboard cutout test?

Geez, I bought RockSim 6 years ago and I still use it all the time. It was invaluable when I was designing my scratch-built Level 1 rocket and planning for my cert. flight. It's price is equivalent to a nice kit or a few reloads, certainly within the reach of almost everyone here. I guarantee...

    Level 1 motor recommendation

I used an AeroTech H165R for my L1 cert. It's a nice conservative low-end (3% H) choice but it still gave my rocket a nice ride (~2100 ft.) on a brilliant ruby-red flame. My rocket was a bit smaller than yours (2.34" OD; about 2.5 lbs.) but the 200N (45 lbf.) max thrust and 167N (37 lbf.)...

Do you have a favorite brand of spray paint?

I did experience that problem with one can, but I have never seen it again. I like the Ultra Cover 2x's color palette. My town's hardware store also stocks the full line, so they're real easy for me to get, too. I have had very limited experience with Valspar paints, but what I have used has...

    Nose Cone Preference

The link in my post should take you right to that n.c.'s (deci-scale Iris) product page. Semroc apparent no longer has any BNC-50BDs, unfortunately.

    I really like "bungee cord"..............

I have used small diameter bungee (bought at EMS) in some rockets. Pros: It's much more durable and heat tolerant than flat elastic. Con: Boy oh boy, does it ever store energy when it is stretched. :y:

    Nose Cone Preference

Also BNC-50BD, the nose cone that Estes used in the EAC Firecat. I'm not a designer; I just like these shapes.

    Nose Cone Preference

The nose cone that was used in the Iris sounding rocket. A 1/10 scale version was the Semroc BC-1180. https://www.semroc.com/Store/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=2002

Do you have a favorite brand of spray paint?

Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Ultra Cover 2x. It applies very easily due to having the best spray nozzle of any paint brand that I have tried, and as the name says, it covers great and levels out nicely for a great smooth coat. It's so easy to apply it makes you feel like an expert. After decades...

Maxi Mini Magg "Zip It Up" Mostly-Built thread

That's a Leviathan to me. But then to my eyes 3" tubing looks massive.

How many rockets do I need?

My wife didn't like it at first, but she's become much more accepting of it over the years. A big breakthrough came when we went to NARAM together -- it finally convinced her that I wasn't crazy, and that lots of apparently sane people were involved in this hobby. She still has zero interest in...

Maxi Mini Magg "Zip It Up" Mostly-Built thread

Is the pig destined to go for a ride in this? It's a nice-looking design. I have an appreciation of large-caliber rockets. What are the overall dimensions of this bulldog?

Poll: Do you like building or launching more?

I can completely identify with all of the different points of view expressed so far because at various times every one has also been true of me. I viewed the two choices, "building" and "launching" as two very general categories that each incorporate any number of specialized activities and...

What impulse class do you fly the most?

My motor usage has been heavily influenced by field availability/dimensions and motor availability/expense, and only partially influenced by my actual preference or the types of rockets I build or want to fly.* Per my (incomplete) flight log, the two motor sizes I have used most were A and 1/8A...

What impulse class do you fly the most?

Anything larger then N -- if so you're awesome! Not to mention quite well-off.
