Nice flight -- What was the loaded weight on the rocket and total impulse on the N motor?

Dynacom Python (3.3" OD) Build Thread

Love the nostalgic build thread! Thanks for sharing @rfjustin. @WILDMANRS should bring back some of the old Dynacom designs. A 6” Ultimate Python would be awesome.

    EVENT URRF 9 June 9, 10 & 11 2023 Potter NY Registration is open.

Great shot. Is this a screen grab from a pad video camera or do you have a still camera set to activate on liftoff?

    Impulse restrictions at MDRA

Wow, end of an era. Is URRG currently the only other east coast club that can support O/P flights?

    Aquarius flies on a P

Nice burn and boost! Bummer on the recovery, but at least the hardware survived. Going to rebuild the booster?

    Full 1:1 Scale Missile Builds?

I have a full scale (94% with PML 11.5" tubes) XM-47 Little John that I've flown on N-P motors. You could probably build one a lot lighter to take a full M.

    O3400 Min Diameter L3

I've seen a lot of people use carbon plate without issue, but I'm not sure which ones sourced from Dragon. They're pretty expensive and Wildman/Composite Warehouse may be better sources for raw carbon plate. I don't think I've ever seen commercially manufactured G10/Carbon plate itself...

    O3400 Min Diameter L3

I didn’t need ballast or have any stability issues. The CG was already pretty far forward since it was all motor with heavy forward bulkhead. As for your fins, I don’t think they’ll work. Unreinforced 3/16” G10 is going to buzz right off. If you absolutely can’t do tip to tip, here’s what I’d...

    O3400 Min Diameter L3

It was an EX case and a Performance Rocketry (Now Composite Warehouse) cone. I didn’t have any fit issues and it was pretty snug right on the case. Since it was an EX motor, I drilled the shear pin holes right into the very end of the case, above the bolt retention ring. All my electronics were...

    O3400 Min Diameter L3

I built a similar 98mm minimum diameter rocket and made the FWFG airframe 2” shorter than the casing. The nosecone then fit right over the top end of the case. I didn’t trust any unsupported sections of airframe tubing. I mounted a sled in the tip of the nosecone with a Big Red Bee GPS and a...

How far can you take this hobby?

I was around for some of this stuff and would love to hear your thoughts on these stories... 1) I think a lot of times when we're pushing motor design limits we're unsure what will work and what won't until they fly. What projects were you surprised worked? What failures were unexpected? Were...

Suppliers of *really* large diameter tubing?

Look into Smith Fibercast Red Thread tubing - It's filament wound fiberglass industrial tubing that comes in sizes up to 24" in diameter. The downside is that it is pretty heavy and the outside finish is a bit wavy.

    RDAS Compact Accelerometer

BUMP - I'm still looking for RDAS Compact units. PM me if you have one that you'd be willing to unload.

My quest for an O motor launch.

You should put a 6" mount in it and adapt down for the 98mm flight. This configuration would let you fly a lot of different O motors.

    R.I.P. Rockets magazine

Congrats to Neil, Bob, and all the contributors over the years. It was an excellent run and brought readers a lot of enjoyment. The launch reports always seemed to capture the character of fliers and atmosphere of the big events. I enjoyed the trip down memory lane, as it reminded me of a lot...

Awesome work! This is the coolest build thread on TRF in years. Looking forward to seeing the flight in person. Todd
