I have never heard of the craftsmanship event called "Classic Model" before. I looked it up on the NAR website and it appears to be an event where you clone a OOP kit. Has this every been done at a NARAM before? Paul

It has been a long slow and at times a frustrating build. I am finally close to being done. Just a few mor bits and bobs to get done and I can finally get this bird done. This will be my first NARAM entry. Hopefully I will get her done.

A long time ago I found some cardboard that looks exactly like the stuff Estes uses for there centering rings. It was sold at a comic book shop as backing boards. The back boards went into a plastic sleeve along with your prized comic book to keep it in good shape. Paul

Here a is not so great video of my second launch of my scratch-built Vostok-1 R7. it's really cool to see the booster fall off and the second stage kick in. This is my boiler plate model. I am now trying to build a more detailed & finished model. :) Thanks Wrad & PeiroAcme once again!

I used (4) B6-4 , D12-0 , D12-5. One nice thing about the spider ignition system is that I only need to use one igniter and a standard Estes launch controller. I am not familiar with the MJG black powder igniters.

Finally, the winds died down enough for my first launch and what a beautiful sight it was. The boost was nice and straight with the side boosters falling off perfectly & all parts recovered. I am hoping to get a video on my second launch. Now it's time to build a more detailed & finished model...

Without any fins on the booster it will most definitely streamline it. I will have to either tether it to the side booster or try to attach a streamer to it.

can a 1st stage be tumble recovered of a 2 stage rocket in NAR competion or does this this violate rule 9.2? If lower stage ejects with the spent motor intact is this considered a “ejected motor”? 9.2 Ejected Motors No entry in sanctioned competition shall eject its motor or motors in flight...

Thanks.. I did spin test mine. I going to try and replace my ripstop nylon parachutes with some home-made mylar parachutes to save some weight. I am getting close to launching my prototype.

Thank you Mike. I did find a hobby shop in my area that still had 2 spray can and one bottle of the Testors stuff. I have plans to enter my Vostok in competitio, so I am trying to be as accurate as I can.

Does anyone if there is a available paint that matches Testors Paint Model Master Enamel "Euro I Gray" Spray FS36081. I understand that this is the color that closest matches the actual Vostok-1. The Testors paint is discontinued. Thanks.. Paul

Thanks.. I am using Pyrodex RS and I put in about a teaspoon amount. Also, I am using the plans for the igniter from Meatball Rocketry as a go-by . PVC Spider - Meatball Rocketry . The inside dimension on mine is 115mm dia. x 18mm. Maybe I should increase the inside dimensions? For the ignitor...
