I recently used a bunch of ~18 year old Estes BP engines without issue. They were kept inside in a bedroom closet for their entire lifespan. I would guess that keeping them in a humid/non-temp controlled environment would reduce their viability, but I don't know. I was actually pretty shocked...

That's pretty conclusive to me that these igniters are simply not worth purchasing. I hope Estes gets this fixed soon because I'm hearing rumblings from the lay people that the new stuff doesn't work. At $24-30/engine (sans igniters) they are really running the risk of actually driving people...

If these igniters are designed to only be used with an Estes E Launch Controller, it should say that very clearly on the package. I don't think it is unreasonable for me to have believed that igniters marketed to be used with (relabeled) motors that many of us are already familiar with would...

I was using a fully charged 12V, 7.0AHr battery that I have used many times with Copperheads and First Fires without issue. Every igniter fired, they just didn't have enough oomph to ignite the motor.

The pyrogen was completely burned on all 4 igniters. I suspect there simply was not enough or it burned too fast to actually light the motor.
