Arial the mermaid scratchbuild for my daughter

I think you all are right. The plan all along was to keep the flights fairly low on C motors so she could easily track it. It's cool that you all are involving your daughters. I am hoping do something like suggested above with the two tone scale pattern.

    Paint/Assembly Stand

I used the paint stand for the first time tonight. It is a beautiful thing! Slipped the rocket over the simple little cardboard centering rings, and dropped the nose cone on the end. I stepped outside and held the dowel in my hand so I could turn the rocket as I painted. Once I was finished...

Arial the mermaid scratchbuild for my daughter

Thanks guys. It will be a slow build with the other non rocketry projects I have going on right now.

    Engine shot through rocket?

I would recommend the Rouse-Tech authorized version of the AT 29/40-120 case. Commonwealth Rocketry has had the best price on this case recently at $35 but they are currently out of stock.

    Talon 6

To tie this back to rocketry, I did see a YouTube video of a kid pulling a loose tooth by tying a string from the tooth to a rocket and launching it. Though with the last few posts this isn't a great mental image. Best stick to composit construction techniques as per the original build thread.

Project ALTDuino - A homemade altimeter

Great news. I've been following your project page. Great results and great write up.

Arial the mermaid scratchbuild for my daughter

A little more progress today. I'm afraid it is going to be a pig with my heavy wooden nosecone and thick basswood fins but I really like the design that Rex came up with.

    Tiny Arduino perfect for Rocketry!

I posted this in the Altduino thread but thought it might be helpful here as well. For the absolute smallest size here is a fully pinout compatible Arduino clone 20.7x15.2mm. It uses the Atmega328P with all Arduino pins broken out and is available now. Order page...

Project ALTDuino - A homemade altimeter

Since you have to use jumper wires to connect the addon boards anyway, if you want the absolute smallest size without custom boards here is a fully pinout compatible Arduino clone that is about the same size as your baro board. If you stacked them you could cut the length approximately in half...

    Good deal on kevlar cord

I wasn't sure what you were talking about at first. I had ordered this same kevlar before and recently had some 1000# rated kevlar on order from China. When the Chinese order arrived it was the same or smaller diameter but much stiffer. On closer inspection the stiffer version has core fibers...

    Jaw stand! New Launch PAD!!!

I put this together tonight. Nothing unique, just another one like others have posted. The wooden block is laminated from 3/4 plywood, the wrap around the jaw head is 0.060 aluminum I pulled from a dumpster today, the blast shield is 0.060 galvanized steel sold at Home Depot as a protection...

    Tiny Arduino perfect for Rocketry!

Also check out Sparkfun.com. I started out a year and a half ago with their Inventors Kit which is an Arduino learning kit. They have just updated it and it looks really good. I you really want to have some stuff to play with they have a sensor kit that's a bit pricy but has a wide selection...

    Vagabond build complete! Pics added!

If you are really committed to the idea though, sunscreen helps. Personally, I would go with the clothes. BTW, the Vagabond is looking good. It was my first BAR build and it is a VERY nice flyer. I should pick up a couple more.

HELP! me figure out RDF on the playa

I don't have experience on the playa but I do have the BRB 70cm HIGH power, the 7 element yagi from Arrow, and the offset attenuator. I have had 100% success tracking a handful of flights, some quite far out. I think you are working in the right direction. Here are some pointers from my...

    DIY electronics

Are the copper pads on your board facing up in that photo? Edit: I was using my phone to view it earlier. Now I see they are. Is it a double sided protoboard or is there a reason you put the copper on the component side? The reason I ask is you would normally want the copper on the bottom of...

HIGH POWER WIRELESS ROCKET LAUNCHER CINTROLLER

Exactly. My 80/20 rail came earlier today. As I was heading to bed it occurred to me I needed a rail stop. I detoured by the garage, cut off 1.5 inch piece of aluminum stock, face and chamfered the ends, bored a blind hole, tapped it, threaded in a 1/4 20 bolt and was done in less than 30...
