    Aeropoxy use

I do something similar. I stand the squeeze bottles of epoxy in a bucket of hot water for about 10 minutes.

    My Madcow Frenzy XL . . .

After eight years, three paint jobs, and 42 flights, my Frenzy XL went on its final flight at Battlepark last Saturday. The 54mm 3 grain CTI J355 Red Lightning failed about 300 ft up. At first we thought it was a forward closure failure because the rocket separated with flame shooting out the...

    Wet sanding

Wet sanding with 1500 grit between the 1000 and 2000 would just add unnecessary work. I remove almost all of the orange peel with 1000 grit. That's the long slow part. The 2000 grit wet sanding is just to get rid of any remaining orange peel and to remove the 1000 grit scratch marks, so that...

    The Top Programming Languages 2023

I used to program in IBM S/370 Assembly language and then debug it by patching the object code in hexadecimal. That was back in the 80s, when we used to program them right down to the bare metal. I also used to write self-modifying code in Assembler, that modified the object code at runtime.

    Upscale Onyx

If any rocket is going to have a problem with the location of the static ports, it would be my Square Rocket (downscale of Tom Cohen's original Higgs Farm Square Rocket). The av-bay with a RRC2+ altimeter is located in the nose. It only has one static port which is located directly below the...

Tell me something about yourself that is Amazing, Unbelievable, Surprising or Odd. =)

In the late 1700's George Washington planted 13 Horse-Chestnut trees in Fredericksburg Virginia. The last surviving tree was a historical landmark until it finally died and had to be taken down. I have all the wood from that tree. https://www.historicalwoods.com/

    Upscale Onyx

I have tried wet sanding out paint dams before spraying clear coat but I don't always. I have found that it's not necessary because they will get sanded away when wet sanding the clear coat and will not be visible. For other readers who may not be aware, paint dams are the paint ridges left...

    The Porsche DX3 is back

If by "automotive enamels" you are referring to catalyzed urethane enamel, then I agree with your SWMBO! For decades, all new cars have been painted with catalyzed urethane enamel. It is provides an amazingly hard and durable finish but is dangerous to work with unless you have professional...

    The Porsche DX3 is back

The only primer that I use is gray primer, usually Restoration Shop lacquer primer from TCP Global. For cardboard and wood rockets like the Apogee Zephyr Jr, I would normally fill the spirals and woodgrain using Carpenter's Wood Filler (CWF) thinned with water. For the plastic nose cone I...

What did you do rocket wise today?

Thanks! That Mini Magg paint thread is really old and my rocket finishing procedures have changed a lot since then. The big changes are that now I only paint with lacquer paint and I always use clear coat, usually four coats (the Mini Magg was enamel with no clear coat). So I am wet sanding...

    GO Battlepark Launch Apr 14-16

As the weather forecast stands right now Friday looks like the best day. So unless that changes I will be there on Friday. I plan to fly my Cowabunga Mammoth on a CTI 6 grain 75mm M1770 Skidmark. (If it's too dry for sparky motors then it will be a M1590 instead).

Thanks, that gives me an excuse to post some more fillet pictures.

    The Finger

I use the same technique. Works even better if you wet your finger with isopropyl alcohol first.

    GO Battlepark March 25/26

My limit for wind is 15 mph and the forecast for Saturday right now is 16 mph. Then rain and maybe snow forecast for Sunday. I'm going to skip this one, hopefully see you at the next one on March 25th.

    GO Battlepark March 25/26

Some kind of CTI 54mm J or K motor. I have a bunch of them. Depends which ones I have left after MDRA this Sunday. Most likely it will be J360 Skidmark.

I plan to do the first flight of my Porsche DX3 March 11 or 12, weather permitting.

    GO February Battle Park Launch - 11th & 12th

If the weather holds up I plan to fly my 10 ft Formula 150 on a K940. Probably Sunday as the forecast stands right now.
