First, I want to start by giving Jason Toft (aka jetra2) a HUGE pat on the back for his extensive efforts to get rocketry out into the community. Since I've known Jason, we've been on the <a href="https://baynews9.com/NewsStory.cfm?storyid=15420">local news</a> to raise awareness of the Homeland Security issues we're facing, taught a model rocketry class to a group of young 10-14 year olds, and gotten the ball rolling on <a href="https://www.rocketryforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2729&highlight=Tour+De+Deuce">a project</a>that will send everyone's <a href="https://www.fliskits.com/products/rocketkits/kit_detail/deuce.htm">favorite rocket</a> around the US. I personally don't think many young adults aged around 15-17+ have as much ambition as he does. Kudos to Jason for his efforts!

Our latest Jason-initiated project was to put together a rocketry display at his local public library. Granted, this effort won't reach the masses, but is truly a great job on getting the word out and exposing more people to rocketry. By simply asking for the space, Jason aquired empty shelving in a locked glass case for us to display our rockets and rocket-related items. (ie - books, mags, videos, pics, etc) After filling the case to the max, we looked it over and both agreed at how awesome our display was.

Have a look. Enjoy. Be sure to thank Jason for being the productive rocketeer that he is. It is my hope that more young adults like him will become productive members of society.

By the way, I hope this serves as some sort of encouragement for some of you to get out there and do your own little part to contribute to spreading the word. Hopefully the days of rocketry will reach more people than ever before.

Yep...we're 2 cool rocket dudes. Check us out strikin' a pose next to our diplay.

Here I am in worship mode hoping some excited kid goes nuts when he sees those rockets. What a nice little shrine...

Jason,
I think your a class A rocketeer and supporter of the hobby!!

I'm sure these efforts from from both of you, will bring some new interested youngsters (and oldsters) into the hobby

I'm inspired !!

You two are incredible! And extra kudo's to Jason for getting this going!

Library's are very high traffic areas with all age groups. They are also places of learning and research. A perfect place for such a display.

In fact, I am going to look at such a display at our library (well I *am* on the Library Committee... ) and I encourage others to do the same. Jason's come up with a great way and place to introduce rocketry to folks and RE-introduce it to potential BARS. We should take his cue and propogate this approach!

hhhmmmmm

"Model Rocketry brought to you by the Jason Toft Center for Rocketry Education"

how would THAT look on a sign???

Great job, let us know if you hear any feedback.

Very, very nice, guys. I really admire your initiative.

Also, a project like this certainly has the potential to be sloppy, disorganized, cluttered, etc. But you two did a fantastic job laying out the display carefully and with thought. I can't read the labels, but it looks like the rockets are each identified, etc. You've got a very nice selection of books and magazines. VERY nice.

Please let us know if anyone takes the bait and joins us in our asylum :)

Very nice display! BIG pat on the back to take the time to introduce rockets and rocketry to the newbies and maybe create some BAR's too! Hope you kept lots of stuff out to launch while these rockets intrugue the masses!:D

Yeah...I'm cool... :D

I really need to thank Eugene for helping me out with this. 4 of the 7 rockets in there are his. Are you missing them yet Eugene?

I know I am missing mine. That big DW is my baby!!! I wuv her sooo much!

Thank you all for your comments on this! I feel special... :p . Sometimes it feels like I don't really have as much initiative as Eugene thinks I do, but when it comes to rockets, there is PLENTY of initiative where this came from!

I have good news for all of you TDD volunteers...stay tuned!

Jason

CLAP..... CLAP..... !!!!

Great work guys! Way to spread the word. It's projects like this that will insure rocketry will continue to be enjoyed for ever!

Hey guys,

Just had a thought. This display and the intent behind are awesome. I'm not POSITIVE it would qualify, but have you considered entering it in the Fliskits Design of the Month contest?

I may be shooting myself in the foot, as I'm the only other September entry right now (come on TRF, where are your designs?!?!?), but I think you ought to enter.

Take some closeups of the ID tags, and whatever that writeup is on the top shelf and send 'em in to Fliskits with a letter about the display and the intentions behind it.

Jim, what do you think? Is this close enough to qualify as a "design?" You can't launch it (without a BIG engine :) ) or use it to launch something, I suppose, but it's a heck of a nice design for a model rocketry PR display.

Haha Will! I think that's a stretch. Of course, strapping motors to something and making it fly isn't a stretch because as we all know, when designed properly, most anything can fly. Heck, look at the ACME Spitfire. A flying display? I don't know about this one! ;)

Thanks for the all of the positive feedback.

I had never considered such an idea for DOM and it would cause me to *really* think about how to judge it, but it is an interesting idea....

*so* interesting, that I may consider a special DOM or a totally *different* contest where you present how YOU presented model rocketry in your community.

jim

Way to go guys! That is a great display. The presentation is so clean and well thought out. The library is definitely a great place for stuff like this. It'll spark some interest in someones mind. they'll go look up some books on the subject, and perhaps try their hand at it. It's a great educational experience. I know that my three boys will learn quite a bit from the rocketry that we are doing. Regardless of whether they realize it or not. Rocketry can develop many different skills. Keep up the great efforts.

Jim, that is an interesting contest idea. Most original rocket promotional display. Could be some real fun there.

Regards,
Todd

Jim,

That would have real and far-reaching positive repercussions. Every entry in that kind of contest could have more community outreach impact than said entrant preaching to a classroom full of detainees, er... I mean students ;)

Speaking of which...

You've probably already thought of this, but a list of books available in that library related to rockets, along with their call numbers, would be a great thing to add to the display.

wscarvie

oh! that is a good idea! put the reference numbers in the display.

or go a step further and ask to add a small book shelf along side the display and go gather all the books ahead of time and have them displayed *with* the rocket display (sort of a one-stop-shop on rocketry and the space program)

kewl

(i'm contemplating this new contest idea by the way.... :D )
