So head on over to the CIA Rocketry website (since i'm computer illiterate and, can only *mostly* cause problems here....) for MORE great information about this one day!

On a serious note...

These guys are a small but, great group of folks too fly with (some i think have never kissed a girl...)and, i would have to honestly say that GARLO is the "BEST SINGLE DAY EVENT in ROCKETRY...I have ever attended".

Did i mention? It's FREE too attend/fly!

If your in the area, i highly recommend that you check it out!

Thank-you...

One thing too note is that recently we have been experiencing a "Monsoon Summer" here....so if your not a member of the CIA Rocketry inter-communication list. Then go to their website and, click on the link for joining on the bottom of the left header.

Greg Smith gives reports of the current weather and, keeps you up too date on whether it's a go or no go too save you a trip when it gets iffy.

Just in case...

For me its an hour and, fifteen minutes at Mach 70 going down the big road...and, i really appreciate the heads up!:D

Lets keep it going! Who else is coming?

Alright! We've got...

1. Grimracer.
2. Gus...

Dang! Were going too have the WHOLE field to ourselves! :D
Grim?.....I've been trying to get Vaportrail and, VonMises to come over that way too!
Mark will most likely be on vacation but, i did drop by the "Mises and, Little Mises" *TOP SECRET* Compound and, landing strip the other day....

*knock* *knock* Mises! I KNOW your in there!

 Come on in Gus!

Holy $#!@ Dude! It smells like the lobby of Electric Ladyland Studios circa. 1969 in here!

 Ohhhhh.....just touching up the paint *psst**psst* on some of my rockets for a possible roadtrip....dude......

 Thanks for letting me "Tune Up" Mises...gotta Jam in Monterey tonight! *slam*

Was that JIMI HENDRIX? How the HECK did Jimi Hendrix get in here?

 Ohhhh....Jimi drops by from time too time, you just missed Jim Morrison...he was in here yesterday....

Have you given any thought to maybe coming over to GARLO this Saturday?

 Maybeeee......*psst**psst* Oh DANG! I've got a run.....might have to strip that one down and, start all over again......

Bull!!....Your Estes Upscales ALWAYS look like a pro painted them with an airbrush and, you do all with a spray can!

 Well i'll tell you the trick Gusmeister.....use Lacquer paint....*psst**psst* Dang! Another run!

Listen too me.......ANYONE who taught his then 14 year old daughter how to paint ghost flames with a tangerine metallic base.....from a can has proven themselves to the world! Heck even Von Dutch couldn't do that!

 Just a slight touch up here.....*psst**psst*....

Stop that! Do any of these fly?

 Come too think of it.....i do have some small H motors sitting around....maybe time to air these things out a little!

Now that's more like it! Now do me a favor and, have Little Mises check out their website/map and, start planning what too bring....because your in NO shape too be driving for at least.....two....three days....at least!

 Might have too do that Gusman.... *psst**psst*......Thanks, i REALLY need too get out of the paint booth for a few days!

You and, me both....:p Wooooooo.........

So far i've put the word out to a few friends and, maybe....just maybe you'll see Grandpa$ and, Daveyfire (Goodbye to the Midwest World Tour 2014) and, MANY more members of Indiana Rocketry.....sometime around Saturday.

Don't say i didn't try!;)

Sorry, Grandpa$ will not be there. Wish I could get there, last time I went over it was a blast (pun intended). The CIA guys prove that you don't need big motors to have big fun.

Yep, going to Montego early Sunday, so I won't be there.
Mises actually traveling with rockets intended to fly, take pictures-Take video! I've got to see that!!! :)

Mark

I am in time overload BUT... will be flying my "Stuff".. We have a BUNCH of play rockets going on!

If...IF there is anyone who (besides yourself) that would like to stand up and, say.....

"Gus, i CAN'T BELIEVE you talked sooooo badly about your good friend Mises like that.....That was a total stretching of the truth and, NOT the type of person he really is...."

Can look me in the eye for a least 30 seconds and, not...start giggling, all out laughing or shoot sparks out their a$$... I WILL give them a crisp $100 dollar bill. (Of course, it may have come out of a Monopoly game set...but, its STILL a $100 dollar bill.);)

Enjoy Montego, have a safe trip! :D

Grim

I'm in WORK overload....:sigh: Not enough time to finish up MANY Madcow Bomarcs sitting around here.....Oh well, i still have "Nike Joke" the camera rocket and, some small CTI Thunder!

Well, I'll be there, although possibly an hour or so late, seeing as the last camper from the camp I'm supervising won't be headed out until Saturday morning. I did get a bit of building done, and might manage a couple fixes in the next couple days too. No HPR for me a GARLO, seeing as I've seen weber grills with less char on them than my EZI and it needs quite a bit of fixing. I will fly my Blackhawk 24 on a maiden flight, and depending on the wind might have some fun with the CTI 24mm motors. Now just to figure out a quick build for this precision landing contest................. :)

Little Joe! Little Joe is coming too! Now we have:

1. Grim.
2. Gus.
3. Adam.

We, can inflict some serious damage...You want those campers out quicker? Send Tom Mcfee on our side a message....He'll show up around midnight on Thursday with his chainsaw and, hockey mask...

Three Day Weekend!

You want to win that precision landing contest huh? Get up on Mcmaster Carr and, get yah one of those one hundred foot long bungee cords and, a large metal stake (taken from a camping tent). Pin that thing down where you want it to land....run the bungee to the rocket and, WAH LAH!
Now i don't see *anything* in the rules that says you can't...and, it will only work once...but, well worth the effect/effort.

Trust me!;)

Good too hear from you Adam, see you there!

I've been to a couple of GARLO's. I wouldn't worry about attendance. It's like a cockroach convention, people from all over Champaign-Urbana and the surrounds come out of the crevices to "ooh and ah" the flights at Dodds Park.

The CIA guys prove that you don't need big motors to have big fun.

That they do! ;) But, on occasion you gotta air one out...Case in point how many times at Ash Grove have you seen people stop, drop and, roll into position when a *certain person* (we all know) fires up an M-Skid, N-Something or O-My God!
As a matter of fact i've seen people crawl out from under a *certain persons* pickup truck (the largest vehicle most of the time at an Ash Grove launch) when that happens.

What the #$@% are you guys doing around/behind my pickup truck and, why is it rusting so steadily?

It won't be the same without Grandpa at Garlo...see you soon Rich! ;)

 Ohhhhh....:dark:Dark Sith Lord:dark: i am fully aware of the fact that the grounds will be thoroughly covered in mass of humanity and, that the skies will whistle with a plethora of talented endeavors.

But....

Sometimes you have to let the mentally disturbed one out and, have him stand on the corner beating a drum and, handing out flyers.

Three people have contacted me this week alone due to this thread, of those three only one can make it due to short notice. That's ONE!!!:D
Now...what if those other two come in next year, because they are now self aware to search this incredible event out?
That's THREE! Then they bring in more peoples!:D

If only it was a Sunday event...:sigh: If only more clubs would fly on my one day off a week...I would harass many MORE of them...
I think that anyone who finds the time to visit this year for the first time, whether based on this little weekly rant session or by other means...will definitely find a way to come back next year.

And, that's the method too my madness. :point:

The club got together at Grims house last night to build the make and take rockets.. (we do the make part).. 25RWB Estes Alphas free (one per kid) to any and all kids getting there First flight.

Only "I" would also understand thee *YOU BET SNOW JET* reference...but, i seem to remember it as: *YOU BETCHA DER SNOW JET! EH!*
(Grim and, i both grew up...up yonder in der state of Visconsin...not far from each other too!)

Now Grim? *snap* *snap* You know what those Winnebago Indians used to do when they wanted to ward off the evil God of RAIN...?

Thats right...Tonight, under the light of the moon...you must dance completely naked in your front yard...around a small bonfire...making as much *whoopin* noise as you can. :point:

Either that or just sacrifice some Chicken for dinner tonight...like i will.:p

Supper Ate! *burp*
1. Stuffage packed.
2. Rocket picked out..
3. Motors in idle status...

Just got to get through this pesky thing called work tonight...and, tomorrow morning...

Get home around noon-1pm, jump in shower, run out to garage...Start up the beast and, fly down the Interstate highway westbound with 600 horsepower under the hood.

Keep the lights on for me.

BAhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Grimmmm...:sigh:
Did you get the full event in yesterday? :sigh:
I got the email from Greg that event was a go...when i was leaving northern Illinois...:sigh:
Drove through "Champaign Garbonza" while the event would have been starting. :sigh:
Pushed my happy little Semi truck hard (at a *Governed Mach62*) back to Indy. :sigh:
Pulled into my driveway at 3pm on Saturday...:sigh:
Broke into the house and, looked at a small pile of stuff ready to go...:sigh:
Looked at the weather radar. :surprised:
Promptly through an adult pi$$ing fit.
Did a quick math calculation of: time too clean the "Us" up, load car, drive the "Us" there....
Answer, NOT good. :sigh:
Laid down on couch...:sigh:
Dreamed of rain and, chaos...:sigh:
Woke up later that night...sound of girlfriend coming through door.
Know i made supper...
Woke up late this morning...no one here but, me...third leg glued to first leg...
*I don't know where you've been laddy but, i see you had a great time!*
Taking a break right now, re-engineering two Madcow Bomarcs to increase.
1. Efficiency.
2. Wow factor.
3. Destroyability factor 10+ (if things go wrong...) :D
Still trying to determine if yesterday was all a crazy dream or if i can fly at GARLO 2014 version 2.0 next Saturday...which i HAVE OFF...
If not, hope you all had a great time...:sigh:
Miss you Grim and, all my other friends...in the land of misfit toys...:sigh:

Too bad you couldn't make it, Gus. It turned out to be a pretty nice day. We managed to get in the whole event. It was a bit breezy, but only the slightest spritz of mist from a nearby thunderstorm late in the afternoon. I would say that attendance was significantly lower than in recent years, perhaps because of threatening forecasts, but also plenty of competing local events (and we could probably have done a bit more promotion - but busy lives, and one can't get to everything).

So, what we lacked in quantity, we made up for in quality! Plenty of nice upscale and downscale flights, good company, shared the little "take-it" rockets with first-time youngsters, and enjoyed the day.
