Here are my Mini-Maxen. One was built stock (except for a Kevlar leader) while the other was revised with some parts from my eclectic collection.

Here is my 24mm D Max. I put decals on it the other day. Still needs a coat of clear to be done.

My Grateful Dead-themed "Mega Der Dead Max". Bonus points if you can identify all the references...

The plume of smoke coming off that thing is insane. I think I saw a video of this launch in another post, and I was wondering what made that incredible smoke.

I would have sent it up on sparkies but they had been starting fires all day, and I figured three motors canted away from the blast deflector would be...frowned upon.

The best part was where it landed:

Launched our Red Max for the first time this weekend. Went straight to a C6-5, love the solid, classic design of this kit. Great flight, can't wait to shoot it again.IMG_20140503_170033_240.jpg

I painted mine with AutoAir Pearlized Red and Black and finished it with a coat of polyurethane.

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this rocket, because it is really a kit-bash based on the Mega Der Red Max kit, and it does not look very Max-like anymore. But anyway... Here is my MDRM-P, also known as "The Pod Rocket." I am not a huge fan of the stock livery of the Der Red Max family of rockets, but I am a fan of retro-style sci-fi rockets. So when I got a great deal on a MDRM kit, I decided to add pods to the edges of the fins and make it more to my liking. I eventually got my Level 1 HPR certification with this rocket. There's more about the rocket in this thread, including more pics and flight videos and info about how I built it: https://www.rocketryforum.com/showthread.php?64212

EDIT: I had posted photos a few months earlier that weren't displaying correctly. And since that time I've repainted the rocket. These are updated photos of the rocket as it is finished.

My three Maxes: Der Mean Max (Red Max & Mean Machine bash), Der Green Max (triple 18mm cluster) and Der Red Max (box stock). I have a couple more to build that I haven't gotten to yet, including a Mega Red Max.

Now that is cool as an old dead head from way back it never entered my mind to tie dye a rocket and I bet I could get most of the references right.

Does it fly or is it only for show. You now have inspired me to do one for the who as that is my favorite all time.

It certainly does fly; it's not a rocket if it doesn't. It doesn't look quite as good as it used to, but still draws a crowd. It's kind of funny how many people have NO IDEA what the theme is about ("Why did you put teddy bears on your rocket?"

Why dancing bears of course what else on a Grateful Dead themed rocket.

Exactly. Most people do get that one. The kill board is a mystery to most, and nobody to date has picked up on the hand print without me pointing it out.

I probably still have the graphics. If you want them PM me.

Jerry was missing a finger. That's not common knowledge? Jimmy Doohan was missing one too.

Here is one of my upscales, Crimmson Maximillion. Ya know, like Red Max but bigger. I also did one with a purple body and a yellow nose. I called it Purple Prefect Eater, because at the time me and the prefect were razzing each other. Actually we still do.

I would love to have a set of them.

I ended up waiting until Sunday to fly Der Redskins Max...

Second of the two Stickershock kits that I bought during a 2 for 1 sale a few years back. I need to get another Max Family shot going here soon.

My custom Mega Der Red Max! The only part used from the Estes kit is the nose cone. This MDRM is dual deploy and has a 38mm motor mount with just enough room for a 3 grain motor. It was built with LOC tubing and 1/4" plywood fins. The nose cone is cut out to make room for the main chute because the shoulder of the nose cone almost touches the top of the av bay.

The finish is spray can Duplicolor Perfect Match lacquer in metallic red and metallic black with 3 coats of clear lacquer, wet sanded and polished.
