I'm cloning a Estes Odyssey rocket and have run into a snag. The instructions say the balsa fin stock is BF-89, 32297. What is the correct thickness of this balsa? And the length of the dowels on the ends of the fins, how long are they? I assume close to 2", as the dowel in the kit would be 6" long?

Thanks in advance for any help given.

The old Estes balsa SKUs were BFS-x0. The 'x' was 32nds of an inch. The thickest, IIRC, was BFS-60, 3/16 (6/32s). If this pattern holds, -89 would be ~9/32nds. Probably 7mm.

BF-89, 32297, are the product codes for a die cut fin sheet. It doesn't follow the old Estes fin sheet thickness product codes, like what Mike suggests.

Semroc still sells (for a little while) replacement laser cut balsa fin sets for the Odyssey. They are 3/32" thick.

When I did my not-quite-clone (didn't have the correct nose cone, and cobbled up something that sort of kind of approximates it), I used 1/8 balsa.

Estes has the nose cone available in the nose cone set #3173.

Thanks to everyone that replied!
