Just tooting my own horn a little. I've got photographic proof that it went up. I didn't take any pictures of it coming down. I was just proud to see the parachute.

I flew a Madcow Aerobee 150a 3 inch rocket on a CTI H110.

Glad it behind me. Moving forward. Time to play with some electronics next time. Altimeters/flight computer and what not.

Congrats, I was hoping to make GRITS but had to change plans. The SoAR facebook page has a lot of pics from Friday and Saturday, looks like the event turned out great considering the weather.

I witnessed the flight and even sneaked in a couple of peeks upclose before the launch. It's a really nice looking rocket and it was a beautiful flight. Congratulations!!!

Cheers,
Michael

It was a great flight on a beautiful day with a nice landing!
Welcome to high power.
Lots of good flying on Saturday.

Good luck with further flights.

They need to make the photos public so those who don't use Facebook can see them :(

Can you post a link to the pics. I went to there Facebook and couldn't find any from grits. Thanks

David,

I am sorry I missed it. I think I was trekking to the south end of the field to recover my wayward RIM-24 Tartar after it went "cruise missile" on me.

That was your rocket that did that? What motor was it flying on? Wasn't it a cluster or am I thinking of a different rocket?

The pics I saw were posted in the recent post section.. I think those same pics are on a thread here now.

No, just a single G40. I don't understand it. I had the rod angled into the wind (toward the north end of the field). At approximately 75' feet up, rolled once and turned southward. And as you know, the winds were blowing south at that time of the day. There were plenty of flights that drifted south as they recovered. But mine was the only one I know of that defied the wind and actually flew that way. Another 50 yards south, it would have been in the trees.

Congrats! I am hoping to make L1 this year.

What kind of altitude did you get on that launch? Single or dual deployment? If single, how long was your walk?

It was single deploy under a 30" chute. I thought it best to keep it simple. The rocket weight was just over 3 lbs, walk wasn't too bad. I actually don't remember the walk all that much. I was too pumped and there was a lot going on around the field. Computer simulation projected the altitude to be about 2300', but I don't think it quite made that high. It was close. I was trying to keep it just below the clouds that's why I went with the H110, plus I like the long burn. Trees were not a big concern at this field, but I didn't want to loose track of it so I opted to keep it on the low side.

Congrats David!
Did you have to add nose weight? I thought I read/heard somewhere that the Aerobee stability margin is a bit small, and that some people recommended adding nose weight.
