Hi all,

Does anyone know where I might get a plastic nose cone for a BT80 (2.6") upscale of a Red Max with a 29mm MM? I have a balsa cone from BMS (or maybe Semroc?, I forget which ATM), but I'd like a plastic one so I can install electronics in the nose cone for DD, probably using an Archetype Cable Cutter.

I suppose I could drill out the Balsa cone, but I'm afraid I may weaken it structurally.

BTW, the balsa nose cone looks great!

Yes, I've Googled, but haven't found anything yet.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Sometimes you can find them on Ebay. Just checked Performance Hobbies, and Ken is out of stock.

I could print something pretty easily, probably with integrated mounts for your electronics, if you can detail what you want.

Estes sells the 4" Mega Der Red Max nosecone seperately and the slotted tube also.

I don't know of any plastic cones for the Red Max in that scale.

If I don't find anything else, I may ask about that. How do they hold up?

Doh! This was a reply to vcp about the printed nose cone.

The Launch Pad Rockets sells some 2.6" Nose Cones that would likely work.

Thanks for the link TopRamen. Those look nice, but they don't look to be the correct scale for a Red Max, they look too short. If I'm scaling things correctly, the nose cone for the BT80 should be about 10.5 inches long, and these don't look quite long enough.

That seems to be what I'm finding too :p

I may just have to stick with the balsa cone and single deploy. In the meantime, I'll build as is, then I can always replace the nose cone if I find something that works.

PML PNC-2.5 Plastic Nosecone Dia 2.560" Length 11.25" Weight 5.4 oz.
BT-80 ID 2.560" OD 2.600"
Is the diameter given for the PML NC the major diameter of the cone or the diameter of the shoulder? If it's the shoulder, you're home free. Actually not free free. I think it was sixteen bucks.

That actually looks close enough that it would work. Bonus points for there being an Intellicone that's designed for electronic.s

Thanks!

Glad it'll work. You may show your gratitude with pictures of the finished rocket!

That's assuming I actually get it finished in a reasonable time.

I have quite a build queue, including several other scratch builds. I'll post pics when I can.

Thanks for the measurements. It made it easier to find the one I wanted on the page and I didn't have to look up the ID of the BT80 tube.

I've ordered the nose cone from Public Missiles. We'll see how it looks when it gets here.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Sandman could turn one in this size. He did a 4" for me that works quite well.

Obviously not of plastic, though.
