I finally got to the point I need to do something about my knees. They've been bad for many years...fell from a telephone pole many years ago while installing cable.

Had the right one scoped 3 years ago and it's been giving me fits, but the left one finally caught up to the right one.

Doing the insulation and drywall on my workshop really pushed it over the edge.

Had MRI's and xrays done and really thought that I was going to get both replaced. I'm very close to being bone on bone, but there is still a little cartilage betweem them. The doctor said I'm close to replacement, but wanted to try Hyalgen injections first. They inject it right into the knee joint. Had the first one today and get two more over the next two weeks. He said the one I got today won't do much, but it will start working after the second one.

The one in the right knee didn't really hurt at all. The left one did, but it's been really swollen for the last two months...may be related to that.

There is also a simular product that one of my relatives had called Synvisc. She's a nurse and is on her feet all day long and has had great success with it.

I wanted to post this because I know there are others in the same situation as I am.

I'll post more as I get the other injections to let you know how it works.
I'm not too thrilled about launching rockets because it just hurts too much to recover them.

Hope to be better in time for the spring time launches...if it ever get here that is!

Will be following... Hope things go well for you Randy!

I'm getting so I just won't do needles anymore at all and that's bad for a Type 2 diabetic. I don't need insulin BUT... It's totally a phobia, comes from when I was 22 months old and a finger tip that got caught in the blades of a reel mower. The episode is my earliest memory. It's bad, real bad. My blood pressure will jump 35 points and I have fainted without a needle being inserted. I basically bolted from the doctor's office the other day when they were doing a blood draw. She hadn't even stuck me, yet. When I had a dentist, 20 years ago, he prescribed a Valium 10, just one, for each visit. My wife had to have an injection in her knee. They stopped because I was white as a sheet and close to passing out and it was HER that was getting the shot :p

This kinda rambles a bit, I know, but it's a true phobia as bad as it can get. The doctor is kinda mad at me but I really can't help it. Now that I know what drugs I need I do have an option of sorts. I don't have to see any doctor to buy pharmacuticals in Mexico and McAllen, TX, is looking better and better every day :(

Back in the late '80's to early '90's I used to have my horse injected with Hyaluronic acid. He had arthritis in both front fetlocks. I then switched to intramuscular Adequan. I didn't have to have the vet out each time; much less expensive... Back then each shot was $80.00. I gave him a shot every two weeks during the summer competition season. AP is much cheaper!

Very interesting. Thanks for posting that, it may come in handy.

Hope everything works out for you.
I don't have as bad a Problem as you, but as a former Runner, I have developed "Chronic Knee Strain". Now I Ride a Bike instead of Run.

Been down that road. Telephone lineman/Service tech 35 years wore out both knees. Had my right knee scoped in 2007 and a total replacement in 2011. The left has been on Synvisc almost a year, pretty good results. I do not want to go through knee replacement rehab again. Good luck!

It's good to hear success stories about these shots. Can't wait until next week!

btw, I HATE green poles..I've sure you know what I'm talking about.

Ok, it's settled...you are NOT allowed to go with me to my doctor!

Yep, I have cut out on those more than once, only went to the bottom twice. Give me an old cresote pole any day.

Got my second injection on Wednesday. It was weird since I got the left done first this time and the right second and had the opposite result as last time. My left didn't hurt at all and my right one did this time. I also had a different doctor do it since my was stuck waiting for a plane on the East coast.

I can certainly say that is is working. Walking up stair is MUCH easier now. Still not perfect, but better. The pain level as also dropped. The guy I share an office with had noticed I didn't groan as much this week.

I get my third and last on next Wednesday. Hopefully I will be able to start recovering rockets soon

ok, got my third and final injection today...wish I would have done this a long time ago! The shot are a minor inconvientience compared to the constant pain.I can walk up stairs with only one foot on a tread at a time! Walking down stairs is still a bit of a problem, but it's getting better as well. I know they will never be "as good as new" again, but I'm hoping that after another week or so, I will be as good as I was 10 years ago. Guess I will see how long it last...6 months would be good in my book.

Glad to hear the shots are working!

If you've had bad range of motion in you knees due to the damage to the joints, then you may also have atrophy and tightening of the supporting muscles, tendon and ligaments that will limit the use of your knees --- things like going down stairs the way you would want. Now that you have the joints moving, you may want to ask about some physical therapy or at least some exercises that would be safe for the joints and would work on strengthening and increasing flexibility in the muscles around your knees.
