TALOS 4 004.jpgAfter 3.5 years of sitting on the shelf, not knowing it's outcome, I finally completed the TALOS. Yes, a ripoff of Talos 4, via Star Trek.....but It was the only semi cool name I could come up with. And having just watched episodes of T.O.S., I guess the name was still fresh for the borrowing.
Anyway, it's not a new design by any means, but I was/am happy with the sleek lines. Gunmetal grey, Gloss white, Pactra Fine line tape, Chrome Monokote, and vinyl decals finish it off. I suppose It should see some air-time this spring.TALOS 4 001.jpgTALOS 4 002.jpg

Pretty. Me likes white and chrome.

Which engines do you have planned for it?

Have you used Monokote on other rockets? If so, how well does it hold up?

Thank you for the kind words. Yeah, The White/Chrome scheme seems to work well together. It wasn't the original plan.....if fact, it had no plan; just one of those fizzling brain storms that arrive in a flash then are gone just as quick. It's set to fly standard BP D/E engines. As far as the Monokote, this is the first time I've used it on this scale. I knew I wanted a Chrome accent, and we all know Chrome paints are anything but, so for all of $1.99 I snagged a 4' x 6" sheet of this stuff. It's simple to use, basic peel and stick....a little at a time, 1/2" or so, position it, press it, and roll it around the tube. It's a very strong hold......no worries of it peeling during flight. Over a nice even gloss paint layer, it's forgiving in repositioning.
The foil leaves a nearly flush shoulder....any thinner and it would pass for water set decals.....but much stronger. I would recommend it.

+1 on the Monokote. I use it as accenting on many of my rockets. Nice rocket BTW.

Is the Monokote easy to apply? What about the seam, is it visible?

What I do with monokote is: I add a couple of drops of dish washing detergent in a bowl of water. After I peel off the monokote, I soak it in the bowl briefly and apply it to the rocket. The soap allows you to work the monokote unto the rocket without it sticking right off. This way you can remove any bubbles or move it around to your desired area. Once it is in place you can hand dry it with a paper towel. Once it dries completely, it will be on permanently. Hopes this helps.
