Ah,a fellow rocketeer after my own heart !

Bravo my friend on a great build ,I meant to comment earlier about your fine build but never got around to it, and it would have been a terrible sin to not offer my praise to you.

I bought the same kit shortly after it came out (David from SIRIUS Rocketry gave me a dingle to say he had one in stock) but have yet to build it, so I`m absorbing your build and taking notes.

Not to worry ,I can assure you,I follow this build daily and am enjoying it to the fullest !

Thankyou !

Paul T

Thanks Paul. I also got mine from Sirius. Great price and fast shipping!

Love your build Rey. I have to say yours looks way better than mine. I built mine from scratch and flew it on a H180. 104a.jpg106a.jpg107a.jpg

Ok folks. Sorry for the delay on this build. I had a little time last night to resume my build. I started gluing the steering fins to the Herc.

SWEET !

I thought you forgot about us ?

Don`t be a stranger and post plenty of pictures please ,as this is a very important build !!!!!!

Cheers and thanks

Thanks Bill! What kind of altitude did you get on that H-180? Those are great pictures of your flight!

Rey

I'm guessing it went about 1000'. At least that's what OR simmed it at. I haven't flown mine in two years and thanks to this thread I had to dust it off to get it ready for next month launch . Someday I'm going to build another with a 38mm motor mount. Keep up the good work.

All four steering fins are on. I need to trim the edges now.

Great looking build, I really like the Nike Hercules, if only i had your skills and patience lol. :)

Thanks Brody, but you are giving me too much credit. But there are some really good craftsmen on this forum that I look up to as well.

I had a little time last night and I cut and glued the steering fin hinges. I need to dowse the balsa pieces in thin Ca to form some rigidity and make them more conducive to sanding.

Just wondering what happened to the rest of this build.

I spoke to him last month he still hasnt finished it.

Understandable.
Life etc...
I had a build, my Starchaser 2.6 that took almost a year from start to finish. I worked on it on and off in between other things. In the end I was just happy to finish it!

Guys,
The build is slowly making progress. Sorry I haven't been posting much. I am working on the recovery system. I also installed an Aeropack Slim motor retainer. Its almost ready to paint, and I have been in communication with Mark from Sticker Shock. He is working on decals for the kit. I will try to post pics in the near future.

Tnx Rey. Just started this build and was watching your progress. I'm going with the stock 29mm mmt on a G64.

Hi Rey ,

I`m sure glad you didn`t forget about this awesome build ,I look forward to your progress reports !

Take care

I love TLP Build Threads! This is a good one! Keep up the good work!

Thanks TopRamen. I epoxied an Aeropak 29 mm Quick Slim motor retainer to house a 29/240 casing. I'm thinking on using an H-210R at this moment, since I have one.

Oh yah....the business end !

That SOB is going to scream off the pad !

The more I see this again ,the more I`m thinking of my two (TLP & Sandman`s/Gordon) that need building.

I see a winter project comming my way.

Ok. This is one of the dilemmas I've been pondering for a while. The TLP instructions have you install a metal washer up about 8 inches from the top of the body tube. I did this before I decided to go all-out and convert it to a High Power bird. My dilemma has been, how to stuff a 48 inch parachute and shock cord and all the nose weight into an available 7-8 inch space.

What is the washer for Rey ?

Do you need that big of a chute ?

Watcha using for shockcord ?

No more questions LOL

Presumably the washer would not only add a little weight to the front, assisting with the CP/CG ratio, but it kept the Mylar chute closer to the front/nosecone. If I would of built it as per specs and kept it Midpower there would not be a problem and the laundry would've had plenty of room.

Yes it needs a 48 inch chute. The finished rocket will weigh anywhere from 3.5 to 4 pounds. Luckily I was able to find a thin mil 48 inch chute through Sunward Rockets.

As for shock cord I am using kevlar, around 1/8 inch. I am also contemplating a bungee contraption that will rely on that front washer for support. It will be housed in the aft part of the rocket. I think this build is going to make my brain explode! :y:

I will send my solution to the recovery bag of tricks soon.

Wow ,I had no idea it was that heavy (I like that.....sounds like my builds)

I see now what you mean about the washer ,as TLP kits often have you place an CR near the nosecone to keep thing forward and assist in the CP/CG relationship. That has screwed me a few times ,and do not put then in anymore.

Good luck and hope you find a good solution !

Keep us posted.

Paul. I forgot to mention that that weight includes motor/recovery, etc. Lift off weight. I still haven't calculated nose cone weight. I will do that once I have completed the recovery solution.

Oh ,and don`t forget primer nad paint.

It`s surprising how much weight it adds.

I watching a TV show where they were painting large passenger aircraft ,the weight of the paint was astounding.Of course it makes sense when you realize how much a gallon of paint weighs.
