Sweaty Balls V is less than one month away.
So the usual questions.
Who plans to attend and what do you plan to fly?

I won't make it this year.

Of course, that means the temps will be in the 80s, with a gentle breeze, and moderate humidity.....

Heather and I are planning on making the trip down. Who else is coming????

SB V now just two weeks away.

I am hoping to get some details on field conditions soon. The farmers are very busy right now around here, but I will update when I can.

Thanks, --Lance.

Thanks for the update Lance.

FYI, I plan on being there and bringing a few specialty research chems and supplies, along with the other commercial supplies.

If there is something special you'd like me to bring that you think I may not, please send me an email to scott at lokiresearch dot com.

Good News

Lance talked to our landowner and all the wheat is in! SB5 will take place on July 13th and 14th.

Thanks for the good news.
If you plan to do any range set up on Fri. evening and would like help let me know and I will try to be there.

What and where is Sweaty Balls V? I refuse to do a google search on that at work.

Sweaty Balls V is a two day research launch hosted by the Kloudbusters at the rocket pasture in Argonia, KS. It will be held July 13th and 14th, 9Am to 5PM. The waiver for this event is 50,000'AGL.

I will be there. Anyone have a laptop they could share? I want to try out my video rocket. Camera uses USB or can remove card and use reader. I have a card reader.

Well Kevin It's looking like the humidity will be ok.
Temps in the 80s, with a gentle breeze, not!!

Rod,

I'll have my laptop. We can download/play your video in one of the storage boxes.

Looks like 100 degrees and 16 MPH winds on Saturday, 97 degrees and 15 MPH on Sunday!

This might be the coolest SB ever!

The website says "There will be no Model Rocket area set-up for this launch."

Will 1/4" launch rods still be available? I have some smallish rockets that I plan to fly on mid-power but they have launch lugs and not rail buttons.

Yep! They will be available. However they will fly from the high power pads set at 250' from the flight line.

Larry,

We will be out Friday evening, probably a few by 6PM or so and do a bit of range set-up.

I talked to the farmer today and the west field has been burned and worked, so we'll set-up out that way, most likely. The pasture should be in pretty good shape and, I believe, has been baled fairly recently. In fact, we might have to adjust the range head a bit to work around the bales.

Come on out Friday, if you want. If we don't have to mow or whack weeds, set-up will be relatively easy. If we're light on help Friday, finishing up on Saturday morning won't be a problem, either, with all hands on deck.

Thanks, --Lance.

Unwinding from a crazy weekend at the Rocket Pasture.

SB5 Saturday was a good rocket day. There were many rockets flown from ‘F’ to ‘N’ and most were successful. It was fun catching up with flyers from near and far. It was pretty darn hot and almost everything was … well … sweaty. The weather was more typical July than the crazy hot we had in ’11 and ’12. There was enough breeze to help cool things a little and only a few times it got bit gusty.

Overnight sprinkles turned to outright rain and when it became evident that a break in the weather wasn't going to happen, we tore down as quickly as possible. I’d like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who was on-site who went above and beyond the call to help gather, dry and stow all the gear from the weekend. It was pretty messy and everyone was soaked to the bone, but we got everything away and off the pasture and no one even got stuck trying to leave.

So we had “Sweaty” “Sprinkly” “Soggy” “Slippery” “Soaked” B… well you get it.

Most of all, it was fun!

--Lance.

A crazy weekend is right! Thankfully we got one nice day in before the weather turned on us. On the upside, it was nice to visit with some fellow Kloudbusters over lunch on Sunday. Thanks for hosting a great launch, as always.
