Whoa..Wait a minute..I hear those thoughts..Pantherjon is ACTUALLY BUILDING a rocket??? Why, yes, as a matter of fact I am! And MID power?? Well, yes, it was the box I grabbed in my closed eye grab in the 'Kit Room' :D

So here we go it is 3d Rocketry's Dark Comet 3D(which I notice is no longer listed on the website, OOP?) So, here is a shot of the parts:

I will deviate from the instruction a tad here and there and go slightly out of order..But, hey..It is getting built!...First thing I did was mark the tube and then cut the fin slots:

Next I drilled a small notch in the top centering ring for the shock cord to go thru:

I then slathered a good portion of snot - AKA epoxy - to hold the shock cord to the motor mount tube:

I then used some more snot to secure the top centering ring to the motor tube..Guess this is gonna be a snotty rocket!

TBC

Still some more work for the motor mount to do..So,let's get to it!

Don't have pics for all the steps..Measured up from the aft end 5 3/4" and snotted in the center centering ring.I then grabbed an Aeropac 29mm body. Slid the aft CR up the tube and then used some JB Snot to secure the Aeropac, the excess snot that oozed out helps to secure the aft centering ring as I slid it to butt up against the retainer.

Here is the completed motor mount:

Pure excitement!LOL Anyway, I put some snot about 9" into the main body tube and slid the motor mount up and in..And then the first of the 'skinny fins' goes on..I am sure there is a more technical name for it but there it is..

And here all 3 'skinny fins are in place! :D

TBC!

The fins look cool with out the 2 little fins added. I have this and its brother in the closet. Enjoying the build and love the snot term.

Let us continue..Not much left to make this a flyable- albeit naked - rocket...

Now is the time to add the 'secondary' fins. The fat ones..Or more 'politically correct' the wide ones..We are done with the snot, and will now use yellow slime to secure these..Here the first set is in place:

Dispensing out some more slime we attach the 2nd set of thick fins on:

And now the 3rd set gets slimed on..As a note, I used the 'double glue' method to attach these. Spread a very thin layer of slime on the root edge, press it to the attachment point and immediately remove. Wait for the slime to get tacky and then put a generous bead on the root edge and press in place. Any excess you can use as the beginning of your fillets.

And here is a look at the over all effect of the thick and skinny fins from the tail end.

Oh, almost forgot:eek:..Attachment of the 1/4" launch lug. I had though about putting rail buttons on, but I don't think I will be flying this on anything bigger then a 'G' = famous last words:rolleyes:

Next up is paint and putting a parachute in it! :) Fun quick build made even more enjoyable with the quality parts!
