I was looking to get a unit to combine tracking, telemetry and ejection/staging. Came up with three, two I've known about for a while (pretty new to rockets so not that long lol). Those would be the Red Bee and the TeleMetrum. I saw what looks to be a new unit, Entacore Aim EXTRA with a lot of features. What's the ultimate recommendation? BTW, I'm in the process of getting my Canadian amateur radio license anyhow for my commercial FPV multi rotor aerial photography platform. So the radio isn't an issue. Thanks!

Big Red Bee is tracking only -- no ejection charges, etc.

If I were buying an all-in-one unit today, I'd buy a Telemetrum. Nice unit, great support, great people.

Ouch! The ARTS2 is $899 for the rx/tx combo. I guess it could be "you get what you pay for", but I'm liking the $400 price range lol.

+1 on the Telemetrum comments. I've been advising a university student group that has one, and it's been great to use. It does the basics well, plus telemetry, and allows you to play back the flight in real time (which I find useful and entertaining!). I also second Kevin's comments about the people and support behind it. Oh, it does transmit in an amateur radio licensed range of frequencies, so get yourself a Technician ticket.

Is the ARTS2 still available? It's out of stock, and last I heard there were no immediate prospects.

BRB900 TX/RX 299.00
RAVEN2 155.00
not a set however they do work well together and is in your price range

Looking at the BRB system got me to thinking about using some of my XBee Pro 900 modules and a Arduino Pro Mini 328. Think there's even a GPS unit kicking around in my parts drawer. Anyone else built a similar system?

You do not need the Arduino if you can configure your GPS to output 9600 baud. Just go right into the XBEE.

Thanks everyone! I bought a TeleMetrum from Apogee. I'm planning on using it with the Hyperloc 1600 with one of the Raven 2's as a backup. A little off topic, but the service from Apogee is pretty amazing. Not something you see in the RC hobby too much. Better set up a time with the examiner for writing that amateur radio test. Considering my two son's and I just got into rockets last year, we're getting pretty deep into the gear lol. Really cool that they like it so much.

The XBee can be set to whatever interface rate the GPS requires using the ATBD command. I haven't done it with a Pro 900 module, but I've successfully flown a GPS --> XBee set.
