Been working on my Initiator all day. It's not the flawless standard I normally set for myself.....but it's ok, I've learned to accept less than perfect. Besides, it's meant to fly

Just for kicks, I pulled out most! of my field boxes for some current pics. Of course there's still more in closets, stashed away, but this is main "go to" suitcases for an outing. Honestly, I need another tackle box. Also thown in for kicks, my build station--a nice $35.00 roll top desk.

300+ motors at last count....more than enough for an afternoon:D

I'm proud to say a lowly LP flyer like me now has 8 AT SU bullets, a 29/40-120 RMS case, 2 controllers, a Mantis , and some other goodies..............should be a good Spring season.

"See Honey-SEE? It's NORMAL! "
"Waddya mean-it's all organized and not all over the house?"
"Yes- i understand I really don't need any more motors..but look at HIS!!"
"So you'd really tell the Fire Department to 'just let it burn for their own safety??"
"No I don't love my rockets more that you..."
"Can I go out and play rockets with the others boys in the desert this weekend?'
"Okay, I promise to change your oil next weekend..if nobody is flying"
"Fine, I'll get the rockets out of the bathtub....."
(audio ends)

Man I'm so jealous..my fleet is 7 with 4 24mm reloads and 1 D12-5..right now anyway

H,

I'm curious about what I see in the 8th picture - the one with 2 translucent bins. I see what appears to be stacks of ready-made fins. Are they for future builds, or do you take them with you to the launch for on site repairs?

You might want to dedicate a range box/container or two to the things you absolutely have to have with on the range.

Remove all the items that are building supplies, construction spares, and such and store them separately from your traveling gear.

Dedicate one box to your supply of motors you intend to burn that day.

Three range boxes ought to do it.

Well, when im in CA for spring break, i could help you with this "problem" :D

+1

I have one small clear tackle box tray dedicated for igniters, a large pencil box for single use motors, then assorted plastic bags for items like quick links, shearpins, rivets, chutes, reload casings and adapters, and one for repair stuff (CA, tape, x-acto, etc. not many spare bits, though)

All this goes into a long cardboard box that I got from one of my parts orders. The larger reloads also go in this box.

The box keeps everything in one place and fits nicely into the trunk of my car along with the birds I want to fly.

I'm sure there are better ways to do it, but this one works for me :cyclops:

I have box for engines, wadding, igniters and launch controller. BTW - I think your Initiator rocket looks great! I still need to paint mine.

but............... it's all appears to be in one room.

i remember when all my rocketry stuff was in one room, then it was two rooms, then three.

i've been tidying recently so i'm down to 5 rooms at home and 4 rooms at work.

i get grief from the wife at home and co-workers at work

I try to keep mine organized in a few different boxes. One kit contains motors, ignitors, plugs, etc up through 29mm using plastic trays. The other contains my LPR stuff including chutes, staging stuff, launch controllers, pads (1 micro/mini and 2 Estes LPR), 12VDC battery for small composites, etc. The last has my basic HPR flight prep stuff like chutes, motor adapters, electronics, quick links, basic tools, etc. I also have an ammo can and nice compartmented bag that I use as needed for things like reloads.

I keep the stuff split up so that I only take what I need with me depending on what I plan to fly. As for building stuff, most of it is in boxes on a shelf above the workbench.

These boxes from Stanley are the most efficient storage option I've ever found for BP motors, better than any tackle box. The spaces are EXACTLY the right size, no matter how they're packed. And they're on the cheap side, too.

Nice stuff... Although being a former cop, I cant help but notice the hammer cuffs hanging on the wall... Are they to secure the motor box to your wrist?

Just checking.. Nice builds....

I have pleanty of fishing boxes Plano boxes (motors) fit great in the soft carry bags, Load up a few and toss the "go" box in the soft side carry bag and thats the end of that, and the plano over/Under boxes work great for the repair portion of the field kit. I have found them to be dual use. They make great range boxes and I have a "few" myself...

Fishing in the Summer and Rockets in the Winter..Im thinking that that ratio may change...

A few pics of the garage as well as my cave in the cellar where I feel like im building frakenstein... The shelves are in desperate need of re stalking and that isnt going to happen until the spring when I can unload some of my crankbaits. One crankbait will go for well over 100 bux which equils a new 29mm bird and lots of materials. Not to mention the other baits that will add filler for my other creations.

Ive been watching ebay for bulk items like tubes, nose cones and the like. After I unload my spring time fishing stuff, I plan on purchase start purchasing in bulk and building some bigger and better birds. Ive also been researching telemetry for real time data and the eagle tree I currentley have seems very challenging as the base design seems to be geared towards model airplanes. DO love the real time video downlink they provide as well as the real time GPS positioning.

Some Scratch builds that ive been playing with for the past few months. A kit here and there are nice but to make it from scratch.. it is something special...These scratch builds are made for E-9's and most of them are one way trips. They go so high and so fast that at that altitude they become invisible, even with a home made smoke bomb out of the yellow 18mm tubes filled with red chalk dust, its still almost impossible to find them. I recentley got some reflective window decorations at a party store to add to the streamer package with the hope we get a reflection of some sort on the way down.. Havent had a chance to try that yet. Either way, These things SMOKE off the pad. Im working on getting a postal scale to weigh these things as im thinking they cant weigh much...

Bradycros?

I think we found another candidate to share in our "Monk" jokes. :D

Oh Tommy! Unload yer fishing gear on ME! Damn! All you guys are SO organized! I'm never letting my wife look over my shoulder again...you all are setting a really BAD example!

My wife says im disorganized so i do my best to prove her wrong.. lol.. i go.through my OCD stages while plannimg my next project seems to get my brain thinking... Im trying to.devise an indoor spray booth with full exhaust, if my wife can smell the paint its already to much.. lol...

So ur into fishing? I have four overpacked tubs of plastics, send me a P.M with a shipping address and i will put together an assorted bass package.

Better to be used up than just sitting in those totes that weigh 100 lbs each. Oh one more thing ,, if u fish with ur wife.. let her catch more fish than u.. works every time. :)

Oh Yeah! "Letting" the wife catch more than me is no problem...we're very competitive., but she's the cook! I'll have to send you a local product that should kill out there 'cuz they've never seen (rather-smelled) it before. PM to follow!

The cuffs were my father-in-law's, who past away this last October. He too was a former Peace officer and security guard. It;s only been a few months, the wife hasn't really grieved yet, and until we decide to part with (if ever) items from his vibrant former life, we keep them as obvious sentimental items.

Side note: Stashed away in a closet is an older (70's) Estes starter set. It's got a few engines: D-13's, B-14's etc etc. Obviously no desire to ever attempt using them, but kinda cool as a retro set.

I have a bunch of the plastic Stanley tool boxes you can get at Wal-Mart or wherever for less than $10 each. A nice thing about them is that they are stackable. A bad thing is that they changed the design and about half the ones I have don't stack with the other half. I keep trying to buy some more to replace the old ones, but I don't want to have to explain to the wife why I'm buying even more of those boxes.

Anyway, I have separate boxes for different things. For example, I have an "Electronics" box with tools for working on electrical things, a "Drill" box with drill bits and accessories, a "Dremel" box with rotary tools and accessories, etc. I think I may even have a toolbox that holds tools.

A few of the boxes are devoted specifically to rocketry. One has supplies to take to model rocket launches, another has stuff for working with reloadable motors, and one has igniters and ejection charge things in it.

Sometimes I'll grab several boxes when packing for a launch. Other times, I'll take an empty box and fill it with specific things I think I'll need for the launch.

I also have one of the Stanley boxes mentioned earlier that's great for storing and transporting model rocket motors. I have several similar, but smaller, boxes that I use for storing nuts and bolts and other small pieces of hardware. I got them at Harbor Frieght.

I just bought a big plastic shotgun case to use to store my motor casings. It's probably larger than I should have gotten, but it'll hold all the casings I own right now.

Keep them, In that line of work who knows down the road what they may mean to someone in your family. Mine are stashed for my childrens childrens to look at. Never give up the cuffs..

Here's a bit of free advice, worth every penny you'll pay. I have to agree that, the way it looks, you seem to be carrying an entire workshop to every launch. Wouldn't it make more sense to leave the building supplies home except a for a minimal amount for repairs? And to take only - gee, idunno - 25 motors for a day's flying?

And, instead of more small boxes, consider one of these:
