I was just playing around with the idea of a 4" V2 dual deploy for a possible LV 2 rocket. The Open Rocket file is a rough draft. I have a 4" phenolic tube that I fiber glassed with 6 oz. and plan to cut that up for the body tubes and switch band. Also I guessed at the kevlar, eyebolts, and misc weights. Also it is not exactly to scale, being about 5" long, but I want to be able to fit 15" J motors in it. I just put this together Sunday night so I'm sure I missed something, but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on this?

Thanks

Dave,
Are you thinking of doing it as a Level 2 cert or just as a rocket that falls into the Level 2 classing? If you are doing it as a Level 2 cert, make sure you fly it a few times on an I motor to make sure you are comfortable with the set up. There is no sense in taking unwarranted risks on you L2 flight, especially if you have never done a Dual Deploy before .(which I will assume you have)If you are doing it for fun as a rocket that falls in the level 2 classing, then I would say cool. It will prove to be a fun challenge. There are a more than a few ways to dual deploy a short rocket. One way is the dual deploy tethering systems like the tender decender. I have never used these but others have with good luck. https://www.apogeerockets.com/Tender_Descender.asp

Either way I think you can have a lot of fun with that kind of build and your sim file looks pretty good. Most of the time I don't worry too much about the internals of a rocket in the sim. As long as the weight is correct, the CG is correct and the CD is correct you should get a good feel for how the rocket will fly.

good luck
John

Here is your's..(mine)..3.9...successfully tested single deploy, DD as soon as I get my Blacksky ARRD....I flew twice with adaptor 29mm/AT H240..but I have a 38mm MM, ready for a 38/480..that shall fly awsome...

The beast weight 2kg empty, 650gr in top of nose cone. Electroniy at top too...

What is the total length on yours? Do you have a rocsim or open rocket file?

Have you built this thing yet? I'm looking to build something similar.

Design looks good except a 48" chute seems big. Are you planning motor eject/separation at apogee and then altimeter deployment of main?
