The Nike Ajax is ready to go so i started the interceptor E.Here's a few pics.

Main fins on epoxy fillets applied

After thinking about aplying the decals i thought the sharp angle where the wing support meets with with the wing may pose a problem with the decals making full contact. So i put a little more wood filler in to smooth the transition.Hopefully it will sand nice and smooth after drying.

Starting the second set of fins,i used a disc/belt sander to start taking some material off the wing supports, this saved a lot of sanding on the first set.

For the Interceptor E I have one important tip:

Never launch on BP motors.

D-12 has enough thrust to get this model up to about 100', but not much more. The E-9 will usually produce a land shark or worse.

Get yourself a Hobbyline 24/40 case and some E28 reloads, and watch this model perform like it should!

Looks good so far -- keep the pics coming--I like your build stand --May I steal your idea? The 24/40 is a great tip , I'm using it on my Timberwolf E --maybe -someday --I think- if I ever get to launch again--Planning on using a B -or- C in a booster under her. Your gonna love the way your E looks going up--good luck

Thanks!...Sure,make a stand like mine.I gotta make another with the Bt supports higher for attaching fins and stuff. This works great for other stuff though, once you put the Bt in there It's pretty locked.Won't spin at all.

Land shark?...I think i get it.Thanks for the tip!

A land shark is where a rocket thrashes around on the ground under power, much like a fish out of water.

It's not a good thing to have happen and quite often it results in the complete destruction of the rocket.

I would also recommend the use of AT motors in this kit. To date, I have flown mine on the E18W, E28T, F24W, F35W and F39T.

All were great flights and it really hauls on the F motors especially the F39T and the F35W which is the 24/60 reload.

Thanks,I'll try to figure out this reloadable motor stuff.Haven't even let one rocket go yet,may fly the Nike Ajax this weekend though!

Your build is looking good so far! I've had an Interceptor E kit for quite some time now, haven't started on it yet. I'm thinking about cutting fins out of 1/8" plywood, instead of using the balsa. I'd be flying it on E or F reloads, so weight isn't an issue.

I highly recommend going the reload route. I put it off for a long time because I thought it was too complicated and was afraid I'd lose the hardware. But now that I've been flying reloads for a while, I wish I hadn't waited. It's great! So many motor choices. I got my hardware at Hobbylinc, and get all my reloads from them too.

Almost ready for primer,I'm going to use the much liked Dupli color primer and paints,i get about a 50% discount on them because of our business!.I'm going to use the filler primer, then the primer sealer and gloss white.I may add something fancy from Dupli color, not sure yet though.

Here she is!

I may launch this weather permiting this weekend!..Worried about how it will come down...

Had thought about getting one of this thing, it's huge. Knowing this, if one ever does land here, it might well end up getting turned into a display model.

the big E flies nicely on an Aerotech E20-4w. one should be careful about re-inforcing the fins, it is easy to get the c.g. too far aft.

Almost ready for finishing!,just have to epoxy one pod on and install the launch lugs them i can prime tomorrow.

I agree, never a D12, but I have flown many, many times on an E9-4 without incident. The kit is built stock and launched off a stable launch pad, never in winds over 5mph. Launched again today in 5+ mph winds on an F 24-4 with very nice results.

Dragon is just upset because the US stole the Russian plans back and made it better with their mods--All that said the TW , has yet to fly. I'll crawl back under my rock now-- by the way , the 99 looks outstanding dragon

Only having fun among E drivers , Check out the gallery for Dragons E . It is a classic NICE job. If you have time check out the Timberwolf build thread. You may get some paint ideas from them----or not

By the way ,the Ajax looks outstanding---very nice job-- Thinking about doing another Herc down the road but I need to get my other girls in the air first.

Thanks, was going to launch the Ajax this last weekend, but my plans were foiled by a baseball game.I Can't find the Dragons E...Can i get a link?

Check out the Interceptor E gallery- His is the really cool Russian bird--you'll like it!

Been thinking about this since i started,i want to make an ejection baffle.I'm also thinking to attach the shock cord to it with a fishing leader to avoid a zipper. After a few wasted pieces of plywood from the hobby store i got two pieces that fit the Id of the body tube very well.Thoughts?

What about a hole pattern, any suggestions?

well you want the hot gases/particules to make a couple of abrupt turns( the particules don't turn as well so they tend to drop out)...

Best bet if your building your own is to check out the various ejection baffle threads on the forum and use some of those ideas. In my view simple is better but you may want to consider what kind of motor you might use down the road--all ejection charges are not the same--close--but not close if you catch my drift. Perhaps a bit of overkill is good here. One thought--you might consider building a test bird for it , same bt as the E and the same basic inerds. It's just a little less expensive gamble and you get to add a scratcher to your fleet:cool:

Thanks for the advice guys.I think I'm going to do what i normally do though, just go for it and see what happens.Think i have a good idea in my head right now, suggestions welcome.

This is what I've come up with so far,not sure if they will flow enough.Have to fine a way to test that.

It looks to me like the center holes will be a little close to the outer holes. If it were me, I would have drilled a single row of larger holes around the outer perimeter of the one disc, and a single row in the center of the other. The image is a drawing of a Sunward baffle kit.

They are pretty close but Don't overlap,i think the holes are too small though.I'm going to pick up some more plywood to tinker with tomorrow and try it with 1/4" holes. Thanks for the diagram!
