Over on RP there is a posting about D. Mobely. It states he has died. No other info... Anyone know anything about this?

Based what I can find out, it is indeed the Darrell we all knew. Truly a sad time for his friends and family.

Wow.

I started the thread on RP this morning.

I was VERY saddened to hear the news. All our best to darrels family and friends. you will be missed. you were a HUGE part of the rocketry family.

I got an e-mail from someone I DO NOT KNOW with the information. and she had looked me up because I was one of his contacts in his "address book"

There was a short article in their local paper. so unfortunately it seems to be a true.

Fly High brother..

Man that's terrible news. Another rocketeer lost before his time. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

This makes me sad. I can remember the day my 13 year old son found Rocketry online. That was the begining on our trek into HPR. That was 12 years ago. I will miss Darrell's contributions to HPR. It was/is huge!

RIP Darrell...

A real shame.

Darrell had been having $ trouble for a long while - I am not sure how, but I ended up on the end of an e-mail list asking for financial help last year. I did send the guy a few bucks a couple times.

I think the story was that his real trade was IT/software, and as many of you know, that field isn't what it once was. It can be tough, especially for an older guy. Also, the job market is musical chairs right now - and if you lose your seat, good luck getting back in the game. You are hosed.

We've lost a good guy and a real asset to the hobby...

We have lost a great communicator. Darrell Mobley was a driven man dedicated to the hobby. He made so many contributions to increase communications between hobbyists that it makes your head spin.

Godspeed Darrell

Bob

This is very sad indeed.

Many may not know Darrell's tie here to TRF. When TRF 1.0 went down and I went to bring it back on-line, Darrell spent several hours on the phone with me, walking me through the steps to get TRF 2.0 up and running.

In all honesty, if it wasn't for Darrell TRF, as it exists now wouldn't exist.

Darrell Mobley had a hand in many rocketry web sites. I'm sure most people are aware that he created Rocketry Online then, later, Rocketry Planet. But, you may not know that he helped design web sites for and has provided hosting services to a number of rocketry vendors such as Giant Leap. He supported EMRR/RocketReviews.com by allowing Nick to reproduce reviews from Rocketry Planet.

We'll miss you, Darrell .....

Remember the line from "It's a Wonderful Life" with Jimmy Stewart. It goes "No man is a failure, who has friends". By this token Darrell was a huge success, leaving friends across the country who never met him person-to-person, but who knew everyday him on the internet.

I know which shirt I'll be wearing tomorrow.

We'll miss you.

What a wonderful thought... I knew Darrell for well over a decade, during his soaring highs and crushing lows. He always spoke his mind and while you may have disagreed with it, he came about it honestly and with the best of intentions. We are diminished by his passing.

I`m stunned absolutely ! I go to my computer this morning and go to TRF and read about his passing .

I`ve had several dealings with Darrell over the past few years and the man was alright in my books ,very standup and very helpful,he always had time to answer my emails.

My next Estes Honest John build will be in your honour Darrell ,like I promised !!

Thankyou :handshake:

Sincerely

Darrell will be missed. I have always been grateful to him for both his contribution to rocketry and his personal contribution to myself.

I was just reminded that Darrell Mobley also hosted provided free web hosting for rocketry clubs.
