Ah! I recall some of those illustrations! I love the name, from the old Quick-Draw McGraw cartoon show! Thank you very much. What i was wondering as well, though, has anyone tried to model this as a recovery method for their model rocket? Seems like it might be possible, but difficult.

Dave,

Sorry to be a while getting back, but thanks for that! I've found since then that Gus Grissom was involved with this, piloting one test vehicle. What I am also wondering, has anyone tried this as a recovery system? Kinda half-way between a boost glider and a parachute!

I'm fascinated by some of the new possibilities in this field - BPS Space is now selling a thrust vectoring system, and of course y'all have been doing telemetry, altitude, accelerometer data, dual deployment, air starts, RC glider recovery control, and all that for a long time. My dear beloved thinks this is all "up...pop...down", and I guess in the simplest summary that's what it will always be... but there's a whole lot more that can be done now, that's for sure.

ETA... now I don't know what happened... but I didn't see that message with Gus standing right there, until after I made this post.. nor my earlier reply... hmm.. Oh well, thanks anyway! Glad to get that picture of Gus1

Awesome pics and info for El Kabong I and the Rogallo parawing concept! I haven't read too much about it, but I'm guessing that parawing recovery was never seriously considered for the first round of Gemini missions based on the tight schedule. But it makes perfect sense as a recovery method for Blue Gemini or even Big Gemini follow-on programs.

Hi Troops, I remember the old 1/48th scale Revell combo Mercury/Gemini kit ( I wish I had one right now to build) and as I recall, the Gemini came with parts to make it in landing configuration with the skids. As back then, so as now, WHERE was that front landing leg/skid kept during the flight until needed?
As far as why Gemini wasn't used more, I have heard from a neighbor who worked in "Space City" as McDonnell called it at the time, that NASA was under pressure from the White House to move on to Apollo. There was a program designed to use Gemini ships to do things like examine satellites, and after the X-20 Dyna Soar was canceled by Robert Mc Namara, Gemini would have been used for other things. If You want to build models of the various types, check out www.Delta 7.com Studios for card stock models of "Blue Gemini". I think that You will find a lot of what You need. Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer my question about the front landing gear location and...Cheers!

OOOPPPS!!!! I tend to get in a hurry since my Wife has the flu bug and I drop what I'm doing to take care of Her. I Thank God that Her Covid test came back clean! As did mine. Our prayers are with any of You all and Your relatives that You don't get this horrid disease. The Flu is bad enough!
