I had it outside and the receiver got a fix almost immediately; I waited awhile for the Mini but never got a fix. I'll look at it again tomorrow
Touched up some of the solder joints on the module as well as some of the pads on the RF module. Also added some solder to the large tab on the voltage regulator. The amber LED still doesn't come on but the Mini is once again sending out position data. Maybe when the shrink wrap contracted it broke a connection?
I guess I should say " was sending data" since a second attempt to get it to work, after attaching it to a sled and putting it in the nosecone failed.
I'll keep looking, but might need to spend some CoronaBucks and get another one and try again.

Finished assembly of my SpaceX / Boyce Aerospace Falcon Heavy:
WP_20200404_14_01_01_Pro.jpg

Of course, the kit's full body wrap already says "Falcon 9" on it. I'll have to see what I can do about finding a "Falcon Heavy" decal. At this point, it looks complete, but the recovery side of things still needs hooking up and a chute attached.

Today I started a build of a Cherokee D. I made the fins out of 1/8" birch plywood. Two centering rings out of 1/8" birch plywood to go from a BT-20 motor tube to a BT-55 body tube. I cut them on my old Ryobi Scroll Saw. And I started to turn the nosecone out of Sitka Spruce.

Great minds think alike, Greg.

Today I’m working on the external motor mount for my Cherokee-H.

[Sorry, K’tesh. That’s the actual name on the box and in the instructions you’re credited on. On the plus side, I’m shortening the body tube 10” to the proper scale of a Cherokee D which will match the colors of decal set. The Cherokee E proportions just don’t look right to me...but I did buy the Estes Cherokee E kit.]

Next step is tacking the fins in place before doing the internal fillets. This bad boy will boost on an H268R when rocket season resumes in the fall/early “winter”.

Edit:

Turns out the plywood fins are warped a bit so they are sitting under a few barbell plates. The weight and the humidity should sort them out.

My Mach 1 Rocketry Red Shift and av-bay arrived a few minutes ago. Should have none something was up when the USPS driver ran back to his truck and took off when he saw me. The end of the box was crushed.

Fortunately, that part of the box was filled with wads of packing paper and there was no damage done to the contents.

Mach 1 makes beautiful high quality rockets and the av-bay package they sell is out of this world. Pictures later.

I think the “3Years” sale is still in effect so if you ever wanted to try one of their kits, now would be the time. Be sure to use the coupon code “3Years” and get a 10-15-20% discount. I received the 20% off both times I ordered. Perhaps you’ll have good luck, too.

Filled BT spiral and did final prep on fins on Nike Smoke. This is the first rocket I had that did not have glassine. Is this something new? I expect a couple of coats of sanded primer will smooth it out. We'll see. The spiral was very narrow and in some places invisible. That was a pleasant surprise.20200404_171709.jpg

Created a list of materials to order from BMS to finalize my current 4 rockets, and to build the F-79 Lone Wolf. First time in my 59 years I've ever spent a Benjamin on rocketry.

Don't go for L3 then, if you do you will see a lot of Benjamin's leaving your possession.....:)

Works great! I learned about those from "The Great International Paper Airplane Book" when I was a little'un, and this shows that the idea is much older than that. Design was much simpler, but fun was had by all (right up until the folks got home).

We never dressed up to launch em, I guess that used to be a thing...

Not much. Cool and rainy day not suitable for painting or gluing. Added heat shrink tubing to kevlar line; tied shock cord onto Kevlar line. I'm using the rubber shock cord because I gave away my roll of 1/4" elastic to make face masks. Oh well, maybe that will keep someone from getting sick or dying. 20200405_163847.jpg

I saw this some time ago but I think I'm going to try it. Fun & cheap

I made these when I was a youngster probably about the same time I was fooling around with estes rockets. I used paper matches. You have to be a BAR to know what a paper match is. They were pretty unreliable; they worked about half the time. They didn't go very far either. It was fun anyway.

I used to make those to. I think my flight record was 46 feet.

I must be really bored. I started building one from scratch. Rolled my own body tube to start it. First one was just a hair too thick, so I had to roll another one.
