Sanded first primer coat off the amraam booster. Experienced my first earthquake. Sanded second coat off the payload tube. Put all together to see what it looked like...pretty cool. Sprayed another coat on booster. 9B8B57C6-BC9C-426F-9763-41D862F33AC6.jpeg E9FEE31A-37C5-4973-8B9B-ACD29FD2270F.jpeg

Did the earthquake make you feel dizzy?

They often do. Your inner ear senses movement but your eyes don’t see any...until you spot the chandelier or water in the fishbowl moving.

I was in Chengdu in China about ten years ago and went through a number of aftershocks. I can only imagine what the full earthquake was like. Super dizzy for a good five minutes afterwards.

Say what?

Yeah it was surreal. About 1752 today Idaho had a 6.5 earthquake, epicenter about 100 miles from Boise. I just got home from work and stepped out of the truck and it happened . Shook for about 10 seconds. I’ve never experienced one before so it threw me for a loop.

I personally wasn’t dizzy, but many were. It was def a lot of movement though.

Pro Series Patriot is all painted now. Its reminiscient of the orange test rounds used today out at white sands (PAC-2/GEM-T). I also cut up the shiny gold warhead decal so I could apply the fusing strips.

Im pleased with how it turned out and look forward to flying it once we can get out and about again. Should get ~1000 to 1800 ft on the range of 4xD12s, 2xE/Ds, and 4xE12s

So far today, the mailman has brought me the Estes Astron Sprint XL I ordered from ERockets.biz.

Always liked the retro look of the Astron Sprint and now I have one of my very own.

Excellent service from ERockets...ordered it 5 days ago and it’s now on my workbench.

Put decals on Saturn V. Will wait for conditions to change before I go out and buy some little bottles of testors paint to finish off the tower and F1 engines. Nike Smoke and Sonic boom were delivered by UPS today. Gloves and wipes were used as part of the unboxing.20200401_152846.jpg 20200401_163649.jpg

Scratch built a Recruit sounding rocket. These were essentially short Tomahawk motors flown as sustainers for some early reason-entry aerodynamic studies.

I’m pretty sure that the skirt is not an interstage, but a nozzle extension for vacuum performance - a la the nozzle extension on the Black Brant V when stacked as a BBXI-XII

The tail cone is double layered. And I’ve prepped to fly as a single stage LPR to test OpenRocket’s estimate of its stability.

I lived in the SF Bay area and experienced a couple of quakes. One was a "shaker" another was a "roller". In the first the ground moved laterally from side to side. In the other it felt as though I was on a raft in a swimming pool. Definitely changes your perception of what "solid ground" means.

Steady progress on my BSD Thor. Will complete the external fillets in the next day or two, but then will be interrupted as the fiberglassing will have to wait until I get moved into my new workshop.

Okay, I know this isn't really a help forum, but you guys are all still a lot smarter than I am. I've been looking into electric recovery/flight computer stuff, and I haven't been able to find any thing that tells you what to use or how to program it. I know that flight computers can be bought but I don't know what all to do once I get it. Just wondering what you guys use, or if you have any recommendations.

You'll find more relevant information in the software and electronics section of the forum.

However, you should be able to find manuals for the altimeters on sale. Good places to start are:
Perfectflite.com
Missileworks.com
Eggtimerrocketry.com (flight computer kits, require soldering)

A good source of how to info for dual deploy can be found at apogeerockets.com

Those are all excellent recommendations, especially the entry level RRC2 (Missleworks) and Quark (Eggtimer) as they are pretty simple to use, they read out max altitude and have limited settings. The next step up are the SLCF (Perfectflite), RRC3 (Missleworks) and Quantum (Eggtimer) all of which are logging altimeters and require a bit more practice and programming. All have excellent documentation available on their websites. There are several more even higher capability deployment altimeters available, but start easier and move up, all three brands Nytrunner recommended are reliable. I have at least one of each and multiples of the Eggtimer Quark (don't know how many Quarks exactly).

Yes, an original.
So an original BSD Thor and not one of the kits Scott currently offers under the Fusion name?

Last night Scott posted two build videos for one of his Fusion kits. Interesting stuff. I even learned a few things for general rocket building. One of them was a slap in the head kind of thing (why didn’t I ever think of that?) that I’m embarrassed to say out loud.
