I am amazed that we have TRF members arguing about a few dollars and cents in a purchase to support a rocketry vendor. Look around. There are far more things of serious concern here. I applaud Tripoli/NAR and will continue to support them and the rocketry community as a whole. I think it is nice that, nearly all our vendors have online ordering and so their sales can continue. Ask Teddy at OneBadHawk, he hasn't seen an order from me in a couple years--he acted surprised yesterday when he saw mine!

Probably "bad form" to publicly "out" a Vendor for having little or no business . . . Ya think ?

Wow you always dive straight to the negative! :angiefavorite:

It isn't because Teddy doesn't have any business, I'm sure he is always busy. He has not seen an order from me in two years. I have been recovering from a death bed experience myself. I am now back to where I can build and fly rockets.

You brought it up . . . Congratulations on your recovery !

...Also, this decision at the moment is currently framed as Tripoli's decision, so maybe I could understand a refund if it was SOLELY their decision, but I'm currently on a state-wide shelter in place order, so the decision for me is effectively made by the state government even if Tripoli were allowing launches. I think this kind of order will soon be issued nationwide, so it will be completely out of the organization's hands. I think this is pretty much like a worldwide weather cancelation.

Yeah, California is under house arrest so we will not be flying...

And I am not typing this from Springfest because Tripoli Las Vegas made a prudent decision when it was still their choice.

Being in the high risk group (old fart with a history of lung issues) I had decided to self quarantine anyway.

Please note that Tripoli doesn't actually run the launches. That is the local prefecture. So the things we pay Tripoli for continue to provide us benefit, even if we temporarily are not flying. A refund didn't occur to me...

I never suggested monetary remuneration . . . I think they should extend the Renewal Dates for a period equal to the shutdown, due to the "loss of flying privileges" during that time.

What we voted on (I need to check the tally) was not a refund, but to simply extend each current member’s membership term by the length of shutdown that we impose, which is 15 days, but could well need to be lengthened. During that time of course no events are insured, which is one of the benefits of membership. The cost to the association is in delayed income, but the thought was that this way members wouldn’t have to worry about renewing their memberships in the midst of much more pressing issues.
I greatly appreciate the loyalty you show us! That’s very helpful!

Steve,

NAR, of course, would have to incur the cost of the printed bi-monthly magazine.

It has not been announced yet or decided on officially, as I understand, but RED-Glare is going to be cancelled, I guarantee it.... I have already cancelled my hotel reservations. The MD governor has limited gatherings to gatherings no greater than 10 for a period of time well past the April scheduled launch date.

Steve Thankyou for the information. In the big picture we should all focus on our health our families and anything we can do to help not further this issue. We are all going to be effected one way or another by this. Be supportive of others as everyone is handling this in different ways. Keep a positive attitude it helps you and helps others. I hope the best for all be safe and stay active on things its good for the mind and sole.

Thanks, Larry! Hang in there. Someday we’ll get to launch.

Steve,

So, then, technically, Tripoli is okay with people applying for their own waivers and flying HPR on the same properties as the Prefecture normally does, without insurance, as long as the owner does not, specifically, object ?

Can they use the FAA waivers already granted to the Prefecture, provided that they fly on the same date ?

Dave F.

Tripoli is not “okay with that”, but our authority only extends to Tripoli activities.

Not if it’s issued to the prefecture.

Why do you try to lawyer everything? We’re trying to do our part in this worldwide pandemic and you’re trying to figure out how to get around it. I’m not going to help you.

Steve, considering the motive appears to be to find a way around everything, plus he's not a member, you're wasting your time and energy.

I would rather any flight insurance to continue than have dues extended for individuals launching. Best I can recall that would only apply to NAR as Tripoli requires a club event anyway.

For the most part, rocketry is ideal for social distancing, but large or HPR events put a burden on organizers.

True, but travel and hotel stays are still a large risk. I support further cancellations.

The Tripoli board of directors voted today to extend the moratorium on Tripoli group activities and launches for an additional two weeks.

So that would be, what... moratorium through April 16? Just trying to clarify dates.
