Speaking of depressing, I tried to read Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" several years ago. I don't know if it was just the author, or possibly the era/style of writing, but it was hard going. I couldn't make it through the book. I had just read "The Three Musketeers" - translated into modern English from 16th century French - so I was used to a hard read, but this just seemed to suck at my soul.

A book on the history and restoring of Zenith Transoceanic radios.

If you're talking about Adolph Hitler, dude, he was a decorated CORPORAL who served during World War 1. Get yer facts straight, fer chrissakes

BOLD by Peter Diamandis.

Just kicked this one off. It's essentially a how-to-take-over-the-world guide for modern entrepreneurs. Maybe I can glean an idea or two for starting my own business here soon.

After this, I have his latest book The Future is Faster Than You Think waiting in line.

I've gotten off on a Diana Rowland "White Trash Zombie" binge. I think a couple of my nieces would really like this series.

just finished Vacuum Diagrams by Stephen Baxter. did not enjoy it as much as I had hoped. Now its time for something different. Three Stations by Martin Cruz Smith, author of Gorky Park. I wish more of these Arkady Renko stories were made into movies. I'd love to watch them.

Hi John;

I read those some years back. I think that is some of the best sci-fi ever written. It'll be a cold day in hell before Hollywood makes a movie out of them.

Jim
I, too, read it some years back. (Think late 70s, early 80s.) I wanted to read them again.

You're right, of course. Hollyweird would never make a movie that's basic premise is "The right to buy weapons is the right to be free."

Just read Bowl of Heaven and Shipstar by Gregory Benford and Larry Niven. A 3rd book in the series should be released in June.

A fellow rocketeer recommended Spearhead. It is about several WWII tank crewmembers; one American and one German. The author interviewed the main people in the book and then wrote their stories. The US guy was in a Sherman, but then gets one of the first Pershings in Europe. The German was in a Panther. It is exciting, sad, exhilarating and funny.

The Dictator Next Door by Eric Paul Roorda. The "Good Neighbor Policy" and the Trujillo Regime in the Dominican Republic, 1930 -1945. College class I'm taking on US/ Latin American Relations this semester.

I am finally reading 'The Rocket Boys' . I'm a good rocketeer and I've Seen October Sky a number of times. No surprise that the book has lots of detail omitted in the movie. Homer Hickam displays a lot of courage in discussing his family. I don't know that I could have been so up-front about my youth.

Jim
