Okay, here it is:
Tripoli Rocketry Association has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation.
The White House and the CDC has recommended that all gatherings be limited to 10 people or less. (https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/03.16.20_coronavirus-guidance_8.5x11_315PM.pdf)
In order to protect our members, their families and guests at launches, and do our part to stem the spread of the virus, the TRA board of directors have taken the following actions.
All TRA sanctioned launches, meetings, or other gatherings shall be canceled for a minimum of 15 days, starting March 18, 2020
We will continue to monitor the situation.
Please stay safe and healthy

Thats a bummer, so we cant fly locally as TRA clubs as long as we meet the 10 or less participants?

Over reaction. Leave it up to the local club who can better determine the conditions locally much closer to the launch. However, since our next launch is NAR...:p

It looks like TARC is now on hold. I had 2 chances to attend a launch this week. The UROC launch for March was cancelled, but that is no real big deal, because a Spring launch is often cancelled for rain and wind. I had already decided to be a NAR witness for a TARC Qual-Flight, but TARC has now put their activities on hold, because of Covid-19.

I think this is a bit over the top. I am trying to understand but at the same time I read that UV kills this bug and being out in the fresh air seems like a good idea.

I still went to work today out in the public...

These are recreational rocket launches, not work. We discussed risk and liability with two doctors and one lawyer. This is our contribution to help with a national emergency. Also, the virus isn’t a vampire; it doesn’t die instantly when exposed to sunlight.
I agree that fresh air is good. If we could have found a responsible way to continue launching without risking transmitting the virus or incurring legal liabilities we sure would have.

So, Steve . . .

Here is a question for BOTH Tripoli & NAR . . .

Will Members be "credited" for their Membership Dues, during the time the "shutdown" exists, since you have, effectively, shut down the very activities for which the Memberships were obtained ?

Dave F.

Incorrect. You do not need either to get a waiver and fly HPRs.

Try to find a location, on your own, to fly an "M" motor . . . Remember that the landowners have agreements with the NAR Clubs & Prefectures to grant permission to use their land.

Since TRA & NAR have, officially, suspended, "sanctioned activities", I would naturally assume that the Insurance Coverage is also similarly suspended, since they consulted a Lawyer.

They want no "liability" . . . Land owners have probably be informed or will soon be informed of the new circumstances, including lack of insurance coverage . . .

Good Luck & Happy Hunting for a large enough flying field then !

Tripoli has been working on that since last night.
I can’t answer for the NAR.

A 2 month shut down means 2 month dues credit. 2 months is about $11.50 or the cost of a pack of Estes C6 motors. If you're that worried about it, I'll give you a pack of motors.

I think it’s a good decision. We are weeks behind where we need to be with social distancing to get a lid on this thing. The guidance from our government is behind where it needs to be, and compliance with what guidance there is has been poor. In about a week or two, canceled rocket launches are going to be the least of our worries. Prepare yourselves for the likelihood that the 15-day cancelation will be extended by weeks or months. It’s a hobby, my friends. You will survive disappointments in your hobbies. Stay home, and stop mingling. Build some rockets, and post some build threads.

I was referring to the missed months of "flight privileges", not "pocket change" . . . They should extend the renewal date for every Member, commensurate with the length of the "shutdown".

"Bad Math" . . . $11.79 is the MSRP for a pack of 3 - C6 motors . . . Try AC Supply ( $7.07 / pack ) . . . So, send me 5 motors - LOL !

I this society I could see someone blaming the club because they got sick from attending a launch. In that sense I understand.

I realize these are recreational launches, that is actually my point completely. Going to work is something we do so we can have the things we need but also so we can do the things we enjoy.

Apart from the risk of lawsuits, I think there's also a broader social responsibility. I'm not really concerned that someone from my TARC team will get sick, but if they pass it to parents or grandparents, it can get ugly quickly.

I keep reading stuff like this and I was in hard agreement..Until

Last Saturday I was at Hobby Lobby with my daughter and there were Seniors everywhere, no gloves, no masks, no hasmat suits. They were out shopping in a busy store and none of them were keeping the 6' rule. It seems the only ones who care about keeping the vulnerable healthy is the rest of us.

I started to go off the deep end as i am very frustrated....
