Am I understanding the numbers correctly?

There are around 380,000,000 people in the US. Using the low numbers, 40% will get it and 0.5% will die, this means over 760,000 deaths?

Nope. 0.5% of those that test positive with the current testing criteria. Under the current guidelines, not everyone is tested and not everyone is symptomatic.

40-70% will become infected on the current trajectory. Many will not even know they are ill or have symptoms severe enough to test. If we get a rapid test, the criteria might change and so would these estimates.

Add to that if the general population gets it then a certain percentage of medical personnel will also get it.
Isolating infected medical staff for two weeks will impact the labor shortage even more.

They are changing that recommendation as we speak. I think mildly ill or asymptomatic will continue to treat. Personally, I need 2 weeks off. I just don't want Coronavirus to get it.

I am waiting to see if my vacation time in April gets recalled or not. We have already cancelled our plans, but I would still appreciate the 10 days off. Our leader says they are working on a plan to address the short staffing, but have not made any promises yet.

Our medical director had a meeting with the medical director of the intensivist group and made a plan to limit our exposure. It seems reasonable to me, but we still work through all this.

We are planning a drive-through clinic and canceling all minor and elective procedures. I plan to start using all staff to man efforts for screening testing. We are pending a huge onslaught. No positive test yet, but I suspect they will be here by the next weekend.

Forgive me if this has been asked before.....
If you do come down the Corvid19 and recover, are you likely to get it again?
I’ve been hearing this again and again, but so far I’ve really paid little attention to this other than the hoarding.
It has now directly impacted my home. State wide schools shut down for 6 weeks.

It depends on if it mutates. Longstanding immunity is possible but lifelong is doubtful.

I don't know much about plans outside of our department or how they plan on using us. We have positive cases in our health system and in our ICU.

For me directly, we are not flying assumed or positive cases. The PPE interferes with the helmet and NVGs. We also have concern about not being able to isolate the pilot. We have been away from the hospital at the hangar for the Winter months and will stay there for the time being.

We are (and have) transporting these patients in our Mobile ICU. If I have a truck shift, we will continue to take patients where they need to be. With potential Covid cases, we might end up being more aggressive with airway management at bedside to avoid intubation in the truck and not using BiPAP or Airvo.

Edit to add: These are a small percentage of covid19 cases, only the most serious need this kind of treatment.

I've seen on the news by doctors and articles on the internet that high risk people should "stay inside". I believe what they mean is don't go to stores, etc. I sure hope they don't mean that you can't go out of the house in your own yard. Wish these people would not say that in that way if going outside away from others is ok. Is it OK to go outside?? I would think so, it better be!!

Got an email last night saying everyone go back to work unless you're sick.

Since I seem to have caught the flu since friday, I'm home regardless today

What do you do? Sorry I missed it if it was in the previous messages.

I'm in marketing and we (people who sit at desks all day not just marketing) are on forced remote work so that we don't contaminate the people who work in the lab and do other production hands on tasks. For us, it has gone from guidance to mandatory over the last couple days.

We as well - it's a relief for me, my commute is long and miserable. Just too bad it takes something like this to make it happen. I've said for years, forget your self-driving cars and complicated mass transit systems, just work on the internet tools I need to work from home and I won't drive at all!

My wife and I both work from home already, so no change there for us. We are used to it, but for a lot of people, it's going to drive them bonkers to be home with their families 24/7.

We are all on work from home now, and the two meetings I had today could have gone a lot smoother. Ring Central is slammed apparently, so people were getting randomly dropped from that one. For the other, we had several versions of Skype for business/MS Teams running across different users, and they don’t all play great together. Half were trying to upgrade and sending nasty grams to IT because we can’t Install squat on our computers without an admin. On top of that, the headphones I use for my phone suddenly connected to one of my son’s tablets during the first call, so I went from the call to the sounds of Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes...turn off your damn Bluetooth boy!

The cracks in the system were on full display today.

6 Bay Area counties, with 6.7 million residents, of which I am one, are ordering a “shelter in place” starting at midnight. Certain kinds of stores and other essential services will remain open, but the rest is shutting down. Kind of spooky.

So next year there may be a Covid-20? I guess eventually we'll be able to get vaccine shots each year to protect us from the new strain.

Coronaviruses mutate less so doubt it. It could happen, but unlikely.

the public is in panic mode. Raping supermarkets. Stocking top on toilet paper. Its not a gastro intestional issue. I won't diminish the seriousness of Covid 19 but thousands die for the flu every year. And the major media is adding fuel to the fire. May be a play to influence opinion for the election. So far in the Keys we are not totally wacko,. Though my bait freezer does have a nice selection of steaks and chops..... and fish

They mean: stay our of the public. They do not care if you go out in your own yard. I would suggest not going shopping or visiting the neighbors.

Thank you very much for doing what you’re doing though. If you need a pep talk let me know.

Thanks, Steve. I had an older patient wait for hours to talk to me (complain). He had so many comorbid conditions that he had no business being in public.

With the shortage of TP, some of us are going to have to decide when to buy that Bidet or switch to another form of paper.

I'm a systems engineer. Checked email and called my manager saying im still not feeling great. Regardless of company wide direction, they're working on how to do remote work for folks. Unfortunately my work related material is not accessible from home, so logistics are aggravating.

I feel like i have less congestion, although the runoff has caused some coughing and my voice is now 2 octaves lower. The annoying part is the fever which will return to normal then go up a degree or so back and forth

Don’t flush them; I know it’s gross but pick up a diaper pail or a Homer bucket with a lid. You don’t want your house sewer backed up also.

What do you think about the talk about the possible use of chloroquine to treat covid-19? Does this sound promising or is it just internet hype?
