What did you do rocket wise today?

Nothing yet but tomorrow is the rain-delayed LUNAR launch at Snow Ranch so today I’ll be building motors, prepping rockets, and loading up the car.

Looking forward to the Dark Matter Drag Race to commemorate the outgoing club president’s 13 years of stewardship.

He really likes Dark Matter motors so ThirstyB and a few others came up with the idea. Also helps to have a well-stocked onsite vendor.

I’ll also be taking delivery of a 3” diameter Cherokee upscale limited production kit. Before anyone asks how to contact the vendor, you don’t contact him, he contacts you. Heehee.

Actually started thinking about rockets again today - the weather just went above 50 for the first time in months.

I may order my first HPR kit. I never did build the last LPR kit I bought (I barely started it) so hopefully this one will go better.

Unfortunately all the pictures of the lego crane were lost when I was having a computer tech clone one of my old hard drives to my new ss drive. I do have a couple videos on YouTube though. Here are the links: That is a link to the truck part under construction and then being road tested. Here is the crane part under construction, mounted to the truck and being put thru trials. :)

Cool. Some for of microcontroller onboard? What kind of wireless?

A fun day :)
Trying to get leaves off the bottom of the pool, no loss, too windy to launch.

Got a “proof” flight of what will be my level 1. Low and slow. It flew great but tangled the chute and came down a bit quick. No damage, though, so this guy is headed toward a cert. flight.

It is an infrared remote control system. Lego just recently came out with a much more updated system which is an app controlled wifi wireless transmitter /receiver with completely new motors. Cool except it means I now have to buy all new motors and receivers since the Power Functions motors and receivers I have now are not compatible with the new system. But the Mobile Missile Launch vehicle will still have the infrared system on board.

Finally finished my Renegade-D (should call it Renegade-SOB due to all the paint issues I had--my fault for being impatient and trying to paint in not ideal conditions). Oh, also knocked over my Zephyr and dinged the nose cone paint. :(View attachment 408462 View attachment 408465

Awesome Renegade- Have one in bag waiting for the 2 projects on deck to finish before I start that kit... Sorry to hear about the Zephyr taking a hit!! That hurts... At least it is only a paint ding and not worse right?... Hope to see some Launch day pics of both....

Decided to participate in an egg-lofter competiton at Big EARS (the yearly 4-day launch of the East Anglian Rocketry Society) in May.
The rules are:
  • motor no larger than 20 Ns (i.e. Estes D motor)
  • parachute no larger than 18"
  • has to structurally use (a portion of) a Pringels can
  • they provide the hen's eggs
  • the egg has to land intact (no yoking)
  • Prize goes to the longest flight (duration competiton)
  • enter as many rockets as you want
I've never done an egg lofter, but have a couple of models that I'm building. Needs to be as light as possible to get altitude and drift down slowly.

Painted a Mach 1 Saberhawk. I'll let it dry for a couple of days and stick on the decals. Looks like the weather will not cooperate for launching next Sunday, although too soon to tell for sure.IMG_20200308_095059.jpg

Took apart the fan in my makeshift paint booth to clean it and changed the filter. Put it back together and then put down clear coat #2 on the iris. Almost there. 60540860312__AF5E0C0B-42BE-49E3-B35B-B67592DA013D.jpg
