The Wright Stuff Rocketeers launches “The Ohio Cup”, a first-of-its-kind in Ohio Statewide Rocketry Competition for students.

Huber Heights — March 21st, 2020 The Dayton, Ohio based Wright Stuff Rocketeers will hold The Ohio Cup, the first-of-its-kind Rocketry Competition at the Wayne Pee Wee Football Association complex at 6140 Rip Rap Rd, Dayton, OH 45424 on March 21st, 2020 from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Rain dates are March 28th and April 4th, 2020. This event brings teams from across Ohio to the Dayton area to win the State Championship and qualify for The American Rocketry Challenge (TARC) National Fly-Off in May near Washington D.C..

The Governor of Ohio has adopted the Centers for Disease Control’s guidance to ban gatherings of 50 or more people. The anticipated number of Ohio Cup participants combined with WSR volunteer staff puts us beyond that limit.

Further, operations of The American Rocketry Challenge have officially been suspended. Teams have received instructions to suspend all launches and that no qualification submissions will be taken until further notice.

In compliance with the governor’s order, TARC’s directive, and out of an abundance of caution, The Wright Stuff Rocketeers will suspend The 2020 Ohio Cup until the situation is resolved or we receive guidance to the contrary.

Our goal from the beginning was to give our state’s TARC teams an additional opportunity to prepare yourselves to qualify for and successfully compete at the Nationals. We also wanted to see the great rockets you have designed; your ingenuity and your strategies to complete the mission are inspiring even to us seasoned rocketeers. But your health and safety are paramount, and we must do whatever we can to ensure this, whether we’re running a high-power launch or trying to avoid the effects of a pandemic. We cannot and will not compromise on safety.

We will continue to monitor communications from TARC management. They may be able to adjust the schedule and hold the Finals, and if they do, we‘ll be ready to respond by flying our competition and submitting your qualifications.

WSR will continue to communicate to all Ohio TARC teams as events unfold. Please stay tuned for the latest updates. And, thank you from all of us at WSR for your interest in The Ohio Cup.
