20200224_161305.jpg Built rack to display fleet. Had a redo. 1.0 had rockets pointing everywhere. Amazing how difficult it is to drill holes in straight and parallel alignment. This isn't great, but it is tolerable.

Working on a 4" motor mount assy for 38mm motors. Rocket will be a test bed for 38mm motors I'm working on... Had to add the 24mm mounts for clusters.

Started putting together the first parts of my "suicide lathe". That's a 4.5" OD aluminum tube that's going to be my mandrel. Not pictured is the VFD to run the motor, spacer blocks to raise the axis, and a bunch of other things.

That's half of a 3D printed disc coupling on the motor. There's a lot more printing to go on this, including ducting for a hair dryer to heat the mandrel and secondary containment for the mandrel (in case one of the couplings let's go).IMG_20200225_222932.jpeg

Used Crazy Jim's method of marking fin fillet edges with a length of PVC pipe colored with Sharpie marker ink.

Recipient was my Madcow 4" Frenzy fin can that's been sitting on my rocket bench for way too long. I put the fin can there where I would walk past it every time I entered the garage. Not as successful as I had hoped...It's been sitting there for a couple of years.

Well now you got the boulder rolling, you'll have it done in no time! :goodjob:

Managed to do some sanding on the six rockets that I have built over the last couple of months. These include from Estes, the Red Max, the Goblin, Expadition, the Puma, and the Lynx. And then from Art Applewhite, the 18mm Pyramid.

Well today I made a choice for my L 1 Rocket and got that bad boy on order :D:D:D ... My choice is the Apogee Zephyr!!!! :):):):) .. Just love the design and what more can I say!!

Then went to local hardware store bought PVC pipe and a poop ton of fittings :eek::eek::eek: to make a multi rocket carrier... o_Oo_ONext week cant come fast enough expected day of arrival 4 days and it will be a LONG wait... Like a kid at the Xmas tree waiting for their parents to wake up and open presents... LOL :D:D:D

Word of advice: patience is the rocketeer's friend. Launches get canceled/rained out. Things break. Vendors run out of the motor you had your heart set on.

Adopting a relaxed view of rocket timeline can help keep the hobby from becoming another stress-riser in life

It would be appropriate, IMO, to start a new thread for suggestions on this. I'll give you one if you do. (I can't promise it will be a good one...)

I'm now officially miffed about not having a rocket workshop anymore. We've been full-time RVing since I retired from the USAF last September (plus starting a new airline pilot job & stuff). It's been _amazing_, but I'm really itching to build some more rockets & get my rocket electronics designs going. I also have several record attempts I'd love to start building for...

We've visited 18 states since September. Zero rocket launches though.

Here's the attack plan: get enough seniority in the new airline career to get the base I want, buy a house with a big-a$$ shop (or build one), build rockets. #firstworldproblems

Anyone know where to buy a Black Brant II besides Madcow(their out of stock) Either a 2.56, 3 or 4"

IMG_20190911_163522.jpg This is my 4" Splatnik. Solid Styrofoam, 1/8" dowels for antennas. C6-5 motor. At it's last launch, a guy with a 6' tall midpower asked if I had thought of doing an upscale version. Today I started it. It will be 12" diameter with a 3 motor cluster, D or E. Have run my design through OpenRocket and so far get a max altitude of 22.6 ft. anyone skilled with OR want to take a look at my design and tell me what I'm doing wrong?

It's unstable, because whatever makes the actual model stable (base drag I presume) is not accounted for in OR. Try moving the stage CG override to -800 inches (yes you read that right).
