Is there any reason a guy couldn’t put a small plastic rail button spacer behind the rail button on his rocket to hold it out another 3/32” and keep it from being scratched on the rail? See attached pic.

I just used four parts of a 3-part railbutton, worked a treat.

Essentially it's just a plastic washer for the standoff, and then because I was feeling fancy I did a tiny fillet.

Once had a 4" Nike Smoke that I put rail buttons on. In order to space out away from the nose cone "bulge," I put two buttons on each bolt and anchored to the airframe with T-nuts embedded in small wooden blocks. Kept the rail just far enough away from the "bulge" so as not to interfere while providing good stability off the pad.

Almost all of my tube fin rockets now use rail buttons mounted atop standoffs.

Retrofit was because I acquired a sturdy launch pad with a length of 1010 rail.
