Anyone have a solution to stop spam calls? I get them on my cell and home phone. I have not had a non-spam call on my home phone in months. The only reason I keep it is it is required for internet.

I have a land line for the same reason and beside my mother checking in every other day(she's 83) I get nothing but spam. The "do not call list" does not work. I have a Apple cellphone with service from Verizon and never ever get spam calls.

If you can hook your landline up to a modem and a computer, PhoneTray is the best solution:

Otherwise, look for a call blocker that plugs between your phone jack and phone. They work like PhoneTray, bit without the database connection. We have used the Digitone Pro Series Call Blocker. When you get a spam call, just hit the "block" button and the number is added to the block list.

I can't offer advice for a cell other than contacting your carrier. They are now allowed to block suspected spam calls. I get very few now on my Verizon phone.

I have AT&T service for my cell. I was getting spam calls about 2 per week. I install AT&T's app called "Call Protect" and it started screening the calls so that my phone never rang. It took a few weeks but now I haven't gotten one in about 2 months. Check to see if your service provider has something similar. Obviously AT&T does but I'm 99% sure Verizon and Sprint do too.

My iPhone has a setting where i can have phone numbers that are not in my contact list sent straight to voice mail. The phone never rings. I just get a notification of a missed call. This many not work for people who expect a lot of calls outside of their contact list, but it works great for me.

That I might have to try.

I just don't answer a call from any number I don't recognize or isn't in my address book. I figure that if they really want to talk to me, they'll leave a voicemail. Half the time, they do... and it's a robo-voicemail.

If I get a spam call and I have a few minutes I play with them. I should get a whistle or air horn and use that once I know it is spam.

My record is 33 minutes. There's a bunch of YT vids of people that keep them going for hours.

I had a similar problem with my cell #. It got so bad that it would flood my voicemail box to where when I made an outgoing call the call would drop. I ended up changing my cell # and followed a very simple rule. I never ever give out my number only to family friends. If you're online and they ask for a number give them a wrong # if the company wants to reach you they can through email. Now I give out my old cell # on any applications online etc. So get a new number qand watch out who you give it out to.

My landline has an answering machine plugged into it. I have the machine set to the max amount time to record your message. I simply say, "thanks for calling"...then the machine plays dead air for 30 seconds. You can here the gum chewing in the background, some clicks, then they hang up. My friends know that my machine takes for ever to beep, so they just wait.

This is the absolute best feature of iOS 13 in my opinion. My wife has missed a couple of medical confirmation or post-lab-work info calls this way, but at least those folks left voice mail, so it could be dealt with (and the originating numbers added to the contact list).

We have a basic caller ID on the landline and if it says “unknown name” we just don’t answer. Still have to get up to look at the display though.

I usually tell them to "hang on" and then just put the phone down.. If I have them on "hold", they ain't bothering someone else. yes, they eventually hang up..

Now, my cell phone provider I find is just as bad with 'spam'. I get a text from them every other week asking me to get my family on board with them, or some other new special they have going..

Here's a Consumer Reports article on blocking spam calls: https://www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine/2015/07/robocall-blocker-review/index.htm

I need to put nomorobo on my VoiP landline. I get (no joke) fifty robo calls for every real call. Same on my cell. As others have suggested, if I don't recognize the number I let it go to voicemail. If it's real, they'll leave a message.

Of course one can hand the phone to the nearest toddler...:D

i picked up the phone for one and it was a company wanting to renew the warranty on my car. this was about 8 years ago and i had a '96 ford taurus. but i played with em. asked a buncha questions then said,"SURE!!' first thing he wanted my name. didnt "get it" when i said vladimir putin. gave a dummy address. then asked for my car info. to my amazement, he hung up when i said,"1977 ford pinto."
spam snail mail i handle differently. ill take one of them postage paid envelopes that come with some of them and load it up with as much crap mail as possible and send it out.
the BEST one

I built a new home four years ago. I didn't bother to put in a land line or even run a line to the home.
My cell phone is provided by my employer, and several years ago I was getting so many spam calls that I requested a new number. About a year later I was getting the same.
Since the carrier (ATT) has been "allowed" to block spam calls I am beginning to see a reduction of calls.
I've always wanted to give the spam callers numbers to the legislatures offices. Let them get pounded and see how fast it gets changed.

Open up the bottom of the phone and cut a wire to the little loudspeaker. Install a switch poking through the back if you want.
