After being on this forum for over 10 years I have seen some significant changes in the attitudes of the people that are on here. It seems that if you disagree with someone and state your opinion or by chance you don’t go with majority of people who are in favor of something most everyone gets their panties in a twist and then it turns into a big confrontation, which it should have never been escalated to that point to begin with. I just remember coming on here and the people were always very much into the hobby and it was a cool place to hang out and catch up on some great topics and build threads. I don’t see that anymore. If I come on here and participate in a thread and disagree with someone it turns into something it never should have. Instead of being place to express your opinion and enjoy the company of others.

I do want to thank all the moderators and admins who do an exceptional job keeping the site running smooth and monitoring the threads etc. Thanks again your hard work and dedication certainly is appreciated. I’ll continue to be a paying member and support this site, because I believe it can be a great place again.

That is quite a generalization, one which I do not agree with. Have you come to this conclusion because of a particular thread you were involved in?

Certainly as people come and go, the collective personality of this place will evolve. I haven't perceived it to be getting worse (I'm only here five years, but I've also seen quite a few older threads, some contentious). There have always been disagreements and a certain degree of conflict here, but it is very low compared to other places on the internet due to diligent moderation.

I disagree. :D

I disagree with your premise, I find it very welcoming and inclusive. 99% of members are not confrontational, even when they disagree with your opinion. The 1% are dealt with in short order by the moderators. Peace.

No threads that I participated in ... just threads that I have followed in past I notice this seems to be a trend. I guess there's always a troll out there.

I wouldn't go as far to say 99% maybe 85% is a bit more accurate from what I see currently to the way it was years ago. Use to be a good vibe in this place.

I want to launch a rocket to space from my backyard as a jr high school project.

LOL Can I help you build the missile silo?? I know where I can get a great deal on concrete.

I need to keep the cost down too, maybe a $300 budget? I don't get that much allowance to spend on toys.

;)

In all seriousness to the OP, I think people get a little testy in the Winter months. Some launches are in full swing, but it is mostly cold and dreary across the U.S. which leads to short tempers and underused filters. Some words and meanings don't come across as well on a forum. I don't doubt the disagreements and tempers occasionally seen on the forum would be a MUCH different tone if the discussion were around the grill and cooler at a launch event.

NateB hit on a very valid point, the winter months can be tough. I have been on other forums that make this place the friendliest place on earth. I bow hunt and you don't want to even type a sentence on some of those forums the month before the seasons start to open.... Folks are so itching to get in the woods they will draw blood on anything available. It could be similar here, folks want to fly and right now much of the country is snowed in.

I was on another forum for many years and it was heavily geared towards competition and those folks were wound WAY TOO Tight....

Even when I was way off base due to not remembering some stuff folks on here have been helpful and encouraging. This forum as a whole is a very pleasant place to spend some time and often times learn something along the way.

Well said! I live in sunny Calif so yeah maybe there is some truth to that?

Overall this place is very welcoming :) I thank the moderators. I also belong to a few other forums and sadly they have bigger issues.

The way I see it, this is or should be a family forum :)
I try and post like a twelve year old might be reading these threads.

It's really easy for me, because Wifey says I behave like a Twelve year old :)

You Toooo....I am still trying to find someone to help me bolt an M ot the bottom of my neighbors red wagon and then do for a ride.

My take on all this is that this is a more civil place now than before. Specifically because the controls on political/religious division topics are more tightly controlled, and because repeat offenders have either been banned or have left of their own accord.

I will say though that some folks seem to be on a shorter fuse than I'm used to seeing. Perhaps, as others have said, it's weather related. Or maybe it is general anxiety at a world ripe with a new virus in the news, a more tense than usual political situation, and the friggin' FAA trying to take away our hobby aircraft.

I think there is a lower than 10 years ago amount of solid rocketry content being posted, and I am part of that trend. I have less time/motivation to build these days, so it's slow going. I also haven't documented my own builds much, even the one or two per year I've done. Maybe this spring I can start to reverse the trend.

However the forum denizens may have changed, I think the mods and admins and mostly the community of people that are here. I greatly appreciate this place.

Oh, and anybody who thinks this place is harsh should visit some artist forums. I saw a thread once about what constitutes a true gesso that would make your head spin. Puts our glue debates to shame.

Y’know, although glue discussions tend to be vigorous, I don’t recal ever seeing one get nasty. Is that something that really used to happen?

I have to agree with Afterburners on the subject. This forum has become toxic and I've noticed a growing trend of vendors who seem to be above the rules (if you know who I'm talking about, congrats) and a certain staff member (not saying) lets them. God forbid you give an opinion of them that they don't like either. People get rude when you don't agree with them on anything, whether it be from building a rocket (building the fin can outside vs inside) or just anything in general. I've been on here for about 2 years and I've definitely noticed a growth of people who would rather beat someone to death than help them out. Even if you ask for instructions on an old kit or how to do something, you'll generally get the "just go google it" answer.
