FYI - ANY motor shipped via UPS or FedEx must be sent HazMat. You must be an approved shipper and take (and pay for) their training classes. You can't just walk up to the store and offer to pay the HazMat fee.

USPS has an exemption for small motors but you still have to have prior written approval from USPS to do so. Again, you can't just take it to the post office.

There is probably no legal way for you to return it. A local re-sale or trade is the only practical option.

Send me a message if you're still looking for a case, I might be able to help.

There are some 38mm loads that do not require HAZMAT shipping. I do not know if this is one of them, I think this one DOES require hazmat.

Just to be clear, all reloads require HAZMAT shipping. Some can, however, be shipped by USPS ground with proper permission, packaging, and labelling.

I’m 99.9% sure the seller shipped this without any idea of the U.S. hazmat regs. It happens with non-hobby vendors often enough. It’s just that knowing the regs we can’t in good conscience tell you to use that return label. Is there a club near you ? You can use nar.org or tripoli.org to find one.

This has pretty much been settled, Either way I will be keeping the reload. I do fly with a club and I am sure I can either use it for my L1 if i get to that point or swap it for some reloads I can use right now.

OP what you got there? It is not a 240, a 360 for sure maybe even a 480. Cross post, Well now we know!!! Keep it!!

Yup, it does indeed take the 38/360 case.

It will be in my rocket box until I can do something appropriate with it, trade it to a fellow club member or use it for my L1.

You paid about $16.00 to much for it, see if you can settle the difference with the seller!! She might agree to that.

Build a rocket for it, come to Red Glare this April, I'll let you borrow my 38/360 case and you can get your L1

AGAIN, I really need to take a moment and thank all of you for your kind support. I guess in the end I am glad it happened, I found out how kind and supportive the folks on this forum can be. I think I will save it for my L1 Cert launch. I will have to build a nice rocket to put it in.

I wrote it a few posts back, but it bears repeating (I'm looking at you, Chuck). Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
Hanlon’s razor is applicable in nearly every situation.

I really like that thought but I believe in this case you may be too kind. They have another listing on there where it looks like they are doing the same thing.

That is incorrect USPS mailable motors and reloads both are sent ground as dangerous goods, not hazmat there is a difference, they do have labeling requurements. Many reloads are USPS mailable.

Sorry for not being clear when I was trying to clear up possible confusion. I meant that the motors, even if USPS shippable, are still Hazardous Materials and have additional requirements for shipping.

The USPS has a special exemption allowing smaller motors (and some reloads) to be shipped by USPS ground in spite of their Class 1.4S designation by the DOT. So, while they still require prior permission and special packaging, they don't require things like the sender having completed training which is normally required for HAZMAT shipping. The motors are still designated as Class 1.4S by the DOT.
