FWIW,
When the fallout rain from Chernobyl came into Houston, I was standing downtown waiting for a bus, wearing not much more than a wind breaker for almost two hours, had no resources to "take iodine" as advised....the bus was my shelter.....and that was about it, about 30+ years ago...
I do remember that day, I felt stranded, even more than the rest of my time in that era.....and the times weren't so good...
I've made it so much farther than I ever expected....
I didn't falter from the goal, wasn't sure at that time what the goal was other than survival.
The temptations weren't even tempting, survival was spiritual not religious.
In that era, I had a vision that I would be dead by the age of 35. Things were crazy but I kept my course!
I pulled myself up by the bootstraps and here I am, 57 years old, got a 2 to 1 retirement program at a job that I fell into due to an injury 17 and a half years ago, at a place that is on the verge of being hostile....
I'm sure hoping that the "ultimate goal" of life is something more than the paint jobs on my rockets!!!!
That would be such a waste.....
OK, Ramble OFF...

Interesting... Maybe similar to photosynthetic processes? After all, Photosynthesis is utilizing a lower-energy EM radiation to facilitate production of sugars in plants, IIRC...

Also, since the provided link is about the third-level separated summary of the paper, (paper summarized by Nature, summarized by Fox News, summarized by RRP) here's one closer to the source...

1st level summary: https://www.nature.com/news/2007/070521/full/news070521-5.html#B1

Actual paper: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1866175/

It'd be interesting to see if there's been more research in this area since the 2007 paper. Unfortunately, I have a day job, so will leave that to someone else.

An organism that feeds on Gamma radiation is interesting. However, more interesting and useful would be an organism that bio accumulates nuclear waste and fallout to concentrate it and remove it from the environment and food webs.

If anyone needs free essays and information about Chernobyl and everything that happened in 1986, I know a great source; it is one of the fewest which claims the truth. Click here is a reliable service offering data about environmental disasters and nuclear crisis.

Hello, I would write something even if it is an old topic. I respect your story and would interview you. Moreover, I need any opinion any other thread participant can provide (I am gathering data from different threads about Chernobyl and other nuclear disasters). I would appreciate it very much if you considered my request for information about the catastrophe. I really appreciate any help. Hope someone is still alive here.
