If you have one of the Additive Aerospace Camera shrouds, we am looking for videos to share on social media(s)

Just post a you-tube or other link here if you are willing to share.

We will pick our three favorite entries as well as one at random, to receive a $20 credit for the online store.
Any good stories of what you learned from having on-board video would be a huge bonus.

You can have any camera, rocket, etc. as long as you were using one of our shrouds.

Winners will be decided march 8th!

Wow, some really great video! Thanks for all the links. Makes me want to add a camera to a couple of my rockets now.

(I don't think that cloud cover was anywhere near 50%, the wide angle camera and proximity to the clouds is misleading.)

Well thats fantastic. Now the only safety code violation is when the rocket actually flew through the cloud at 2:45.

Please provide references to "when there's 50% cloud cover violates". Is this a club policy? Any launch I have attended has handled cloud coverage as, if there is a break in the clouds we launch so long as the "hole" is large enough to safely view the rocket's ascent to apogee.

Tripoli Rocketry Association Safe Launch Practices – April 2017:

K. Launch Operations
2. Do not ignite and launch a rocket horizontally, at a target, in a manner that is hazardous to aircraft, or so the rocket's flight path goes into clouds or beyond the boundaries of the flying field (launch site).​

Tripoli Rocketry Association RSO Guidelines v1.0:

Weather
The RSO must have clear and convincing evidence that the following constraints are not violated.
2. Do not launch if the planned flight path will carry the vehicle through any clouds​

NFP 1127 2018:

4.17.1 No person shall ignite and launch a high power rocket horizontally, at a target, or so that the rocket's flight path during ascent phase is intended to go into clouds, directly over the heads of spectators…

B.2 Code. The following text is the High Power Rocket Safety Code in its entirety.
(9) Flight Safety. I will not launch my rocket at targets, into clouds, near airplanes...​

When operating Class 2-High Power Rockets or Class 3-Advanced High Power Rockets, you must comply with the General Operating Limitations of §101.23. In addition, you must not operate Class 2-High Power Rockets or Class 3-Advanced High Power Rockets—

(a) At any altitude where clouds or obscuring phenomena of more than five tenths coverage prevails;
(b) At any altitude where the horizontal visibility is less than five miles;
(c) Into any cloud;
(d) Between sunset and sunrise without prior authorization from the FAA;
(e) Within 9.26 kilometers (5 nautical miles) of any airport boundary without prior authorization from the FAA;
(f) In controlled airspace without prior authorization from the FAA;
(g) Unless you observe the greater of the following separation distances from any person or property that is not associated with the operations applies:
(1) Not less than one quarter the maximum expected altitude;
(2) 457 meters (1,500 ft.);
(h) Unless a person at least eighteen years old is present, is charged with ensuring the safety of the operation, and has final approval authority for initiating high-power rocket flight; and
(i) Unless reasonable precautions are provided to report and control a fire caused by rocket activities.

Twice within the past two weeks Tripoli members have posted videos of flights which show onboard video of the rocket passing through the clouds. In both cases I mentioned it, either in a comment or in a private message. Both times I was told that the video makes the cloud coverage appear greater than it actually was.
In one case it was a Level 3 cert flight.
So, here’s the deal. The FAA and our Safety Codes specifically say not to launch into clouds and not to launch at all if the cloud coverage for the altitude you may be flying has greater than 50% coverage. Their rules do not say “except if the clouds are wispy.” Neither would our insurance carrier.
If you post a video that appears to show a violation of that or any other Safety Code, I’ll ask the administrators to remove it. I understand that videos and photographs don’t always tell the whole story, but it’s up to you to make sure that the video you post does not misrepresent what actually occurred.
If it’s a certification flight and if I talk to someone with first hand knowledge who verifies a code violation, I’ll take action at the board level to cancel the certification. If I find TAPs who allow the practice of launching into clouds (and I really hope I don’t) I’ll discuss it with the TAP Chair and those TAPs could be suspended from the TAP Committee. Likewise for Prefects.
Level 3 candidates are expected to know and follow all of the rules, whether those embodied by our Safety Codes, FAA FAR 101, or NFPA 1127. Directors, TAPs, and Prefects are required to enforce those rules.

By far my scariest day at a launch was a massive HPR drag race into the clouds. You could hear at least two whistling ballistic returns. Very large rockets. For me personally, never again, anywhere. Just not worth it.

(BTW, no one was hurt. Thank God.)

Wow, at 3:51 you can see Wellington and Argonia at 3:52. I'm pretty sure I have 4K video of this flight from the flightline. Did it go up Friday afternoon?

Sweet! I’d love to see it. Yessir, it was Friday afternoon.

I'm surprised we didn't bump into each other out there since I landed right in that exact spot late on Friday! My sustainer had to spend the night in the tree as I couldn't get to it before it got dark.
