Lesson learned but still very painful. I was cruising around looking for motor hardware when I decided to start building again. I stumbled onto a sight called Mercari and someone had a 38mm hardware set listed. In the description it listed all the goodies.

I got it to day and it is just an I reload worth less than half what I paid. I tried to file for a refund and the sight says the item is not eligible for a refund because the item is prohibited.

We don't have a lot of extra $$ and then I get screwed by someone. I am so tired of dishonest and mean people both types suck !!!

On top of that I don't have my L1 and this person sold me an L1 reload...What a #$%^&*( Day !!!!

Yeah, that sucks. You can try reselling that load at a local club, to at least get back some of your money.

For motors and such it would be good to follow Steven's advice. I would usually include folks selling stuff in the Yard Sale forum here.

You can also report them for shipping a prohibited item. If they used the post office it could cause them some grief. The site should also ban them for selling a prohibited item.

Whomever it is also committed "wire fraud" a federal offense as they recieved the money electronically.

Thanks Guys, I am going to pursue this like a kid in the cereal aisle.

I thought I was getting a 38mm 240 case as I had plans to get my L1 again and this way I would have the hardware. After purchasing it I decided to stay with MPR's for a while and was planning to swap it for 29/40-120 case.
At this point I would swap it for some 24-40 reloads as I just got that hardware.

When you re-read the listing... were you just mistaken about what product was being sold, or is it easy to see the seller did not deliver the item offered?

Mercari's policy is they do not release funds to the seller until the buyer (you ) give a positive rating. If you paid with a credit card, you can explain that you will accept a full refund, or you will file a formal complaint with the credit card company. Those are the only two options you need to offer. If you paid via pay pal there is no need to deal with Mercari. Just file the complaint with Paypal.

I have made one purchase on Mercari - the only place (literally) that I could find the product I wanted. The transaction was OK, but I will admit, I was uneasy. I'm much more comfortable with Ebay or Amazon.

They actually listed it as the front closure, rear closure and motor tube. I did indeed read it very carefully because I have never purchased from this sight. I will be sticking with Amazon, Ebay and here from now on.

There is no way I will be giving the seller a positive review.

Did you buy hardwear with a reload? Your first clue if it included a reload were they legal to ship reloads. From what I have been told the person selling the reload and buyer would both be guilty of a crime. Please only

I would not report them because the one who received the item could also be in trouble along with the seller.

Doesn't look like the reload was in the description?

I kind of wonder if it was a mistake on the part of the seller. Just mixed up the labels?

@ThreeJsDad did you try to contact the seller directly? Might there be some other buyer who is flipping out because they paid HAZMAT for hardware that they didn't want?

EDIT:

Looked at Mercari's Prohinited Items List

https://www.mercari.com/us/help_center/article/318

What @ThreeJsDad ordered wasn't prohibited. What @ThreeJsDad received was the prohibited item. Is it possible that the customer service bot person at Mercari didn't understand the difference between a motor casing and a rocket motor?

There's nothing illegal about buying and selling hardware, and you bought only hardware.

Legally I think that the buyer has nothing to worry about if he was buying in good faith per description of seller.
Not to mention if the seller is committing "fraud".

The buyer would have no legal liability if he intended to buy something that was legal to ship and the seller shipped something that was illegal to ship.

Thanks again everyone for the moral support. I have an e-mail in to Mercari customer support. Hopefully I can speak with a real person tomorrow (they close at 5pm) and get this resolved.

Yeah, that picture is clearly a reload, while the description says it's a case.
It is also an old reload. How long has it been since AT sold a reload with short, medium, long delays? The picture clearly shows it's a reload. Not hardwear.

I have not looked at any of this stuff in a LONG time and this is why I read the description a couple of times before making the purchase.

I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that seller "dollicious1" is selling this stuff for a friend or relative

dollicious1.png

There is ONE reload listing

https://www.mercari.com/us/item/m86999034825/

(the description of which is a little dopey)

and several listing for the same hardware -- all accompanied by pictures of reloads.

Most of their other items seem to be clothes, cosmetics, phone cases. It seems possible to me that there was some miscommunication between dollicious1 and whomever is holding those reloads in the pictures.

I am really curious to see how this turns out.

Now isn't that a bit sexist? Can't a young hot blonde babe be a high power rocket aficionado?

Even if that's a real photo of the seller. :rabbitdontknow:

Not getting what you thought you were getting sucks. Venting is good for your mental health. Killing an online transaction with my credit card company when a seller offers no remedy is a pretty standard process, right ?
I didn't know about Mercari before this post. Google says it's an online marketplace started in 2013 and operating in Japan and the USA. Caveat emptor ! :)

My credit card company told me to deal with the seller.......

Yeah, that sucks but in the future you'll get by with a little help from your friends. :computer:

Next time.. ask folks here for a recommended vendor for the widget you're searching for. This place is a wealth of knowledge.

Yup !! I do indeed make every effort to benefit from my screw ups !!

I don't want to ruin someone's Karma points but a member here reached out to me and has offered to sell me a 29mm hobby case for what I can afford. The generosity and empathy of this person blew me away when I read the message. I am going to see what I can do but with two kids in college and me job hunting it is tight around here.
