They typically stage pretty close to the ground and tumble recover, a booster that's stable after staging is going to be a lawn dart as they follow a ballistic path. What rocket is it for?

Our LCO always ask other flyers to watch the booster and there’s always a few volunteers. Unless you’re flying really high, never an issue.

It will be black powder to black powder. Scratch built Black Hole, BT55 tube, 24mmt. The booster will be only 4" long. I think I have it so that I can install a small streamer for booster recovery in between the mmt and inside wall of air frame on the upper stage. Small kevlar cord from streamer into booster CR.This way when booster is ejected it will pull out streamer.

I have 4" section I can use to store streamer. The sustainer motor nozzle slides into booster mmt about 3/8". There will also be a BT55 coupler to hold the upper and lower sections in alignment, but it was not in the box of goodies :( What are your opinions?

Weigh a burned motor plus your booster parts. As short as it is, that will almost certainly tumble.

Not to worried about the tumble, just want to be able to find it again. So planning on a brightly colored streamer, even a small one will help.

I think that'll work fine. If the streamer is packed loosely the natural tumbling will fling it right out.

Multiple sets of eyes.
Short Grass.

I've done a couple minimum length boosters. Mostly 29mm. The Vigilante upscale booster tumbles. The booster on my son's competition scratch build glides. That was unanticipated - must have just the right balance.

Stick a dollar bill in the booster and tell the kids at the launch. They will always find it. I have a small little hobby shop I run and at launches with a bunch of kids I'll put a swift up on a a10 and tell them whoever finds it and brings it back get s a free pack of Estes motors.

Tie an 800 foot long piece of Kevlar thread to it, tie the other end to a cinder block......... ( oops, sorry, that was for the TARC challenge;))
